Shabaz Ahmed gets a call for Indian team, Replaces Sundar

Shabaz Ahmed on 16th Aug got his dream call-up for the Indian national men’s cricket team. Ahmed is going to replace injured Washington Sundar. Furthermore, Sundar will be replaced for 3 ODI match series against Zimbabwe starting on the 18th of Aug this week.

Shabaz Ahmed who is just 27 years old has been given this chance, having in mind his top-notch performance in IPL this year. In 2022, Ahmed played his best game for Royal Challengers Banglore. In IPL, he gave out 219 runs and four wickets in all 16 matches that he played this season. The all-rounder has also played at an average of 41.64 and a bowling average of 19.47 from 18 first-class games.

In a statement released by the BCCI, they cleared the air about who’ll replace Sundar in the upcoming series. Furthermore, it brought joy to many RCB fans too. In the statement released by BCCI, it said

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee named Shahbaz Ahmed as the replacement for Washington Sundar for the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe,”

Sundar suffered an injury while playing a county match in England just a few days before the much-awaited comeback. Sundar has already been in news with his injury updates. Washington Sundar suffered a niggle on his shoulder when he directly landed on the hand while fielding.

Although, he was taken off the field immediately. Sundar was named as the all-rounder on the team after a very long wait. He last played a first-class game in IPL just before he was struck by the injury once again. However, his last appearance in Indian colors was in Feb against West Indies. For a fact, Before playing the match in this series, Sundar had just come after spending time in rehabilitation. He also missed the South Africa tour previously.
