The 5th Test between India and England is in full swing at Edgbaston.

While India are eyeing a historic win, England on the other hand, want to level the series.

The Indian batters did very well in the first innings where they were all out on 415.

There were centuries from Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant as well as a late cameo from stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah.

India were successful in bowling out England in the first innings and gained a lead of 100 plus runs.

But one batsman who couldn’t capitalise on his starts was Shreyas Iyer.

He got out on low scores in both the Test innings.

The reason for this is his inability to play short balls.

Ben Stokes knew of Iyer’s weakness and therefore employed the short ball tactic against him.

Afterwards, Stokes placed all his fielders on the leg side and suggested they bowl short balls to Shreyas.

While Shreyas defended some of those short balls, he finally took the risk of hitting one which was comfortably caught by James Anderson.

Thus, Shreyas was dismissed by Matthew Potts in the second innings.

Fans then took to Twitter and said that if Shreyas wants to play for India in Tests, then he needs to practice playing the short ball.

Shreyas has also struggled to play short balls in the IPL and the same result can be seen here as well.

Further, Shreyas may also face a lot of difficulty in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.

It is because, in Australia, there are very fast pitches which allow the bowler to ball short balls with ease.

Thus, Shreyas must work on the area of facing short balls.
