Shreyas Iyer had injured his left shoulder while fielding during the first ODI match against England. Later it came out to be a serious injury as he dislocated his left shoulder badly and needed to go through surgery. Not only has he ruled out from the remaining series against England, but he also has been ruled out from the entire Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.
This was a heavy blow for Delhi Capitals as they had managed to finish in the top 4 in the last two seasons under Iyer’s captaincy. But later they had named Rishabh Pant as their captain for IPL 2021.
BCCI policy for Centrally Contracted Players:
But Iyer will get his full salary for the IPL 2021 which is 7 crores INR. BCCI had introduced a new insurance policy in 2011 for players who have contracts with the central cricket board. It states that if a player gets injured during national duty or in an accident he will get compensation for the matches he misses.
As Iyer is going to miss the entire season because of the injury during national duty, he will get his full salary.
Injury update on Shreyas Iyer:
On that day of injury, Shreyas Iyer left the field immediately and was taken for a scan. He had hurt his left labium badly. Repeated scan reports suggest that it will take at least 3 months to heal. It means he will miss the first couple of matches in Royal London One Day-Cup also. His surgery is scheduled for 8th April.
