Shubhman Gill shares a heartfelt message for Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Tuesday. Popularly known as Mr.IPL, Suresh Raina took to Twitter to announce his decision to retire from all forms of cricket. He wrote,

“It has been an absolute honor to represent my country & state UP. I would like to announce my retirement from all formats of Cricket. I would like to thank @BCCI, @UPCACricket, @ChennaiIPL, @ShuklaRajiv sir & all my fans for their support and unwavering faith in my abilities”

Earlier, he announced his retirement from international cricket a short while after former Indian wicket-keeper, MS Dhoni, bid adieu to his cricket career. Tributes and messages have been pouring in for him ever since his public announcement.

Shubhman Gill shares offer his tribute

The young Indian opener, Shubhman Gill, went to Twitter to share a warm message for the former cricketer. He termed Raina’s contribution to the cricket field as invaluable. He wrote,

“Your contribution to the game of cricket is invaluable. Good luck on your second innings @ImRaina Bhai”

Post the conclusion of the West Indies tour, Gill is presently playing the County Championship in England, wherein he smashed an impressive fifty on his debut.

Raina’s remarkable career

Suresh Raina has donned the Indian jersey for more than 300 international matches after making his debut in 2005. Having played over 200 ODIs for India, the 35-year-old has a total of 5615 runs in just the ODI format. He was the first player to hold the record of being the only one to have scored a century across all three formats. He was also part of the World Cup-winning squad of 2011.

Raina had an extraordinary IPL career. He represented Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Donning the yellow jersey, he walked on the field for more than 200 matches. The Chennai lad was the first cricketer to reach a total of 5000 runs in the IPL. He also stands second, after Chris Gayle, in hitting 100 sixes in the Indian Premier League. His exceptional innings of 87 off 25 balls versus Punjab gave him the record of being the batter to get the most runs in the powerplay. After bidding adieu to his international career, Raina was a part of the Chennai Super Kings squad for IPL, in 2021. Later, he backed out at the last moment due to personal reasons. CSK did not retain the stalwart for the IPL, 2022 mega auctions and he failed to attract bidders for the auction. He went unsold at the auction. Now he is all set to participate in the second season of the Road Safety World Series.
