Sky pundit Dawson believes West Ham United have a huge player in their ranks

West Ham United loanee, Kalvin Phillips will make his debut at the London club in the upcoming fixtures. Kalvin secured a move from Manchester City to West Ham on a loan this winter. Consequently, the much awaited playing time for the ex-Leeds man is finally getting into shape. Although many clubs were keen on signing the midfielder this month, but it was David Moyes who won that race.

The Hammers will host a highly enthusiastic Bournemouth on Thursday, in The Premier League. After this, they will have a trip to Old Trafford to face Erik Ten Hag’s side, on Sunday. West Ham fans will hope their new signing to make his appearance on the pitch. The player himself will not only love to appear but also start both the games.

Sky Sports pundit, Michael Dawson believes that the 28-year old is a ‘good-fit‘ for West Ham United. The only thing that the Englishman will be missing is fitness and sharpness due to his lack of minutes. Dawson said,

It’s hard for any play at any club if you aren’t playing any football. He left Leeds and went to arguably the best team in the Premier League that has been for many years. It was always the question. Where was he going to fit in? Was he going to play?

But when you get that opportunity to go to that football club. How do you turn it down? It was always going to be hard for him. It’s no surprise that he hasn’t played. You have got Rodri, the best holding midfielder in the world. Kovacic has come in. But Gareth Southgate has stuck by him.

You can always go back, but you can’t always go up. It’s a backward step for him, but a good fit.”

Is Kalvin Phillips good for West Ham?

The transfer of Phillips is a very rare move as all the parties are happy with this. However, this move is of more importance for the player than the club. Phillips will be looking forward to the Euro 2024 and for that he needed to play regularly. With David Moyes showing trust in him, it is certain he will feature for him rather than rotting on the bench.

On the other hand, West Ham have now got a depth to their midfielder options. The move of the talented man will also bolster their chances for a higher finish in the Premier League and qualify for next year’s European championship. Moreover, they will be having a boost for their current Europa League campaign as well as increased winning chances.
