Arsenal had signed young Brazilian player Marquinhos from Sau Paulo in the summer transfer window. The youngster is yet to make an impact on the team as he is still adjusting to English Football. Marquinhos was in the starting lineup for the Gunners for the EFL Cup. The Gunners suffered a 1-3 loss at home which knocked them out of the competition. Clinton Morrison, Sky Pundit has stated that the Seagulls defender, Tariq Lamptey did a ‘good job‘ in containing Marquinhos throughout the match.

Arsenal Marquinhos didn’t get much action

It hasn’t happened quite often this season where Arsenal had to face loss. The only defeat they faced in the Premier League is against Manchester United. Despite Eddie Nketiah’s scoring a goal in the opening, it was the Seagulls who will continue on to the next round. The former Crystal Palace striker thought Marquinhos didn’t see much of the ball as Lamptey, after previous injury problems, was back at his best yesterday. Morrison was really impressed with Lamptey’s display in the game and commented on it:

“Lamptey is playing as a left wing-back and Solly March as a right wing-back.”

He further told Sky Sports,

“Marquinhos, he has got ability, but it’s going to take time. He’s still a young player. But it’s good to see Lamptey playing football because, a year and a half ago, we were talking about how amazing he was going to be. But he has had a lot of injuries.”

Marquinhos still growing

After starting his football education in Brazil, this is a learning season for the youngster in his first Premier League season. The young Brazilian should look at Gabriel Martinelli as a prime example and try to follow in his footsteps. As Martinelli was somewhat similar when he first joined the Gunners. Mikel Arteta should trust and believe in the young player and continue to help him with it.
