Indian Women’s team skipper Mithali Raj has identified Sneh Rana as a key all-rounder for her team. Rana did outstanding during the test matches. Now she is contributing to the ODIs also.
Rana’s cameo of 24 from 22 balls at No. 7 helped India seal a four-wicket win in the final match of the three-game ODI leg. Rana had also made an imprint with the ball earlier in the day went of 7-0-31-1. She got the opener Lauren Winfield-Hill caught for 36 to break a 67-run second-wicket partnership. She had picked up 1 for 43 in the second ODI.
Mithali Raj and Powar on Sneh Rana:
“I wanted to be there and win the game for the team, I picked the bowlers to attack and along the way guided Sneh Rana. It is always good to have an all-rounder in the side, she has been phenomenal for us throughout the series,” Mithali said.
Indian women team’s coach Ramesh Powar also praised Sneh Rana.”Sneh Rana is the find of this series,” Powar said.
“The way she was bowling in the practice sessions in Southampton [India’s base prior to the start of the tour], we thought we should give her a chance. It was a difficult decision to play two offspinners, but she has played her role to the core.“
“I am really happy for her. Being an offspinner myself, I can see the talent. She is someone who can play in crunch situations, and that is what we need right now. When the big tournaments and the big series coming up, we need players of caliber, who can take the pressure,” Powar added.
“We have to learn a lot many things from this series,” Powar said. “The fielding improved immensely; the bowling improved immensely. Our batting has to be up if we’re aiming for the World Cup.“
