South Asia Cross Country Championship 2022 is going to take place in Nagaland, The Athletic Federation of India declared.
Kohima the capital of Nagaland will host the Cross Country Championship in January. Top-class athletes for eight South Asians will compete in this championship. The participating countries are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Maldives.
Nagaland’s Chief Minister Neiphiu announced this news in his official Twitter handle. The Chief Minister showed his gratitude to the Athletic Federation of India Abu Metha for helping to put the state for global recognition.
“Happy to announce that India will host the South Asian Cross Country Championships in Nagaland. Grateful to South Asian Athletics Federation & Athletics Federation of India @afiindia. Special appreciation to SAAF President Dr. Lalit Bhanot for his support, and well done @abumetha” – was the tweet by the Chief Minister.
Cross Country Championship’s conformation
Athletics Federation of India Vice-president Abu Metha also confirmed the news. Nagaland hosting the Championship will be a landmark event for the state. He added that it can be marked as a new journey to the sporting future of the state.

In the event, six men’s teams and four women’s teams will participate and represent their nation. Moreover, the capacity building programme for the athletic coaches of Nagaland will commence next week. The head of the will be programme Head Coach of AFI and the current Head Coach of Team India at Tokyo Olympics, P. Radhakrishnan Nair.
Nagaland is going to host the 2022 Cross Country Championship. It is going to be Nagaland’s first-ever National Athletics Event.
Improving sports in state
The promotion of sports is really in this northeastern state of India. Metha has moreover written a letter to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, elaborately discussing significant approaches and strategies that should be taken to promote sports in the state.
Furthermore, the vice-president also discussed how Assam and Manipur have already hosted the National games. Meghalaya is going to host the next one. He also suggested that other northeastern states of Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura have taken significant steps for the development of sports.
According to Metha, to encourage the youths of the region the state governments should make serious efforts to host the National Games and other sports events. Certainly, with some proper planning they will succeed.
