The iconic Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is set to have a few changes around the layout for the 2023 Spanish GP.

The Spanish GP track is all set to get a few changes ahead of the 2023 season. The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya first joined the F1 calendar back in 1991. The track has since undergone several changes.

In the 2007 season, the FIA introduced a chicane just before the final corner of the track. However, now the track will again return to its original layout as the turn 14-15 chicane will be again removed.

Further, new TECPRO barriers will also be set up for the final two high-speed corners of the track. Officially, the length of the track will stand at 4.657 kilometers. The new layout is around 18 meters shorter than the previous one.

The track will also undergo a few more modifications focused on the safety of the drivers. This includes the widening of the run-off area in turn1 adding an additional 70 meters of gravel trap along with a slope of 5%. Further, brand new fencing around turns 1 and 2 for the safety of the drivers.

The track has also undergone changes for a better hospitality and viewing experience for the fans. The pitlane scoreboard will also be remodeled along with the replacement of the kerbs and Tyre barriers.

The 2023 Spanish GP is scheduled for June 4. Max Verstappen won here last time out after an engine failure affected Charles Leclerc’s race.

The 2023 season kicks off this week in Bahrain. Stay tuned for the latest developments.
