According to Football Fan Cast, Arsenal are preparing a transfer move for Euro 24 Spanish hero Mikel Merino. Arsenal are looking to complete another signing of their summer. The Gunners are doing some serious business this summer in the transfer window. After missing out on the Premier League title for two consecutive seasons. Arsenal will be hoping this time they can final end the dominance of Pep Guardiola and Manchester City. Last season Arsenal went trophyless. They were knocked out of the Champions League quater finals against their old rivals Bayern Munich. Arsenal were very close to winning the league last season but ended up as runners up. Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City squad were just too good for the Gunners to beat. However last season we saw this Manchester City team is not invincible. Manchester City were knocked out in the Champions League quater finals against Real Madrid.
Manchester City also lost in the FA cup final against their city rivals Manchester United. Arsenal will be looking to be the next team to dethrone the Citizens. The Gunners had the best defensive record last season. They conceded only 29 goals last season. Mikel Arteta will hope to keep up this record and will try to reinforce his defense for next season. This summer Arsenal signed young Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori. The youngster got his breakout season with Bologna last year under Thiago Motta. Bologna managed to finish at fifth place at the end of the season. This means the club secured Champions League football for the next season. It was a very shocking announcement when Thiago Motta decided to leave Bologna for Juventus. This move lead to many players leaving the club as well. Arsenal also made the transfer of goalkeeper David Raya permanent for the next season.
Spanish hero Mikel Merino close to joining Arsenal
Arsenal have a very strong defense for the next season. Most of the credit goes to their center back duo of William Saliba and Gabriel. Last season, Saliba made name for himself as one of the best center backs in the Premier League. The French defender was a wall in the Arsenal defense. Saliba was also called by Dider Deschamps for France’s Euro 24 squad. The defender managed to keep his form for the French national team as well and become a regular starter. France had one of the best defensive records in the whole tournament. Kante and Saliba were enough to win games for the French team despite poor goal scoring form of French forwards. The transition of Ben White to full back also proved to be a key factor in improvement of defence. David Raya also gave some big performances.
The Real Sociedad player Mikel Merino is another top priority target for Arsenal this summer. After his match winner against Germany in the Euro, the Spanish midfielder is linked to many clubs. Merino is a very versatile player and can fit very well in Mikel Arteta’s squad. Arsenal will still carry on with their search for a proper striker this transfer window. The Gunners will also hope to sign a decent winger to provide competition to Bukayo Saka. Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams is another target for Arsenal despite the player’s strong links with Barcelona. Leroy Sane is also an option for Arsenal if the player decides to leave Germany. The deal of Mikel Merino between Arsenal and Real Sociedad can very well be £25 million. This is a very cheap price for the quality of players the Gunners will be getting. We can hope for a official deal anytime now.
