According to several reports, Tottenham Hotspur have still not given up on signing Sasa Kalajdzic, as Spurs are still keeping tabs on the Austrian. The Lilywhites had shown interest in the 24-year-old this summer, but unfortunately, the deal didn’t get through. Kalajdzic’s contract with Stuttgart expires in June 2023 and the forward is under pressure to renew his contract before the end of this season. Chelsea, RB Leipzig, and AC Milan were also reportedly interested in signing the Austrian forward.
Sasa Kalajdzic was injured in August and is nearing a return to full fitness. This has led to other clubs monitoring his situation at the club. He has only made one appearance this season and is expected to return in December before the January transfer window. If Stuttgart fails to extend his contract then his move to a big club is inevitable.
Spurs want Sasa Kalajdzic to replace a possibly outgoing Harry Kane. The England international was close to a move to Manchester City but the asking price was very high. Since then, Kane’s performances are also not been as they were before. Moreover, they do not have a proper backup striker in case Harry Kane is injured. So even if Kane stays at the club, the signing of Sasa Kalajdzic does make sense for Spurs.
Can Sasa Kalajdzic replace Harry Kane at Spurs?
The Austrian international, who stands at a towering 6ft 5in, is unrivaled in the Bundesliga in terms of height. He is, however, far more than just another target guy to aim the long balls at. He is mostly recognized in German football because of his size itself. Most tall target men are used to keeping the ball and laying it in the paths of runners, however, he is also very good on the turn and has the pace to beat defenders in a run. He also showed his forward instincts by getting in very good positions to finish his chances.
Sasa Kalajdzic has only played a single game this season due to injury however last season he scored 17 goals and assisted 6 in 36 appearances in all competitions. He is a good goal scorer with similar abilities as Harry Kane. Many may argue that Kane does provide assists and creates chances but similarly, Kalajdzic also provides assists. It is obvious that he is not on the level of Harry Kane yet but the young striker has the potential to reach Harry Kane’s abilities in a few years’ time. The 24-year-old is also a good choice financially since he will be at a cheaper price because of his contract while Harry Kane may depart for a huge fee.
Although Sasa Kalajdzic is not on the same level as Harry Kane he is a very similar player to him. With Conte as manager Kalajdzic can be an even better player in the future. The Italian coach also prefers a target man in his squad as he previously had Lukaku at Inter Milan. Lukaku was in the form of his life at Inter and that may just happen with Sasa Kalajdzic as well. However, interest from Chelsea, RB Leipzig, and AC Milan may ruin the fun for Spurs. Once he gets back on the pitch Spurs may have even greater competition for the signature of Sasa Kalajdzic.
