Chelsea are offloading some of the existing players in the current squad to generate money and maintain the profitability and sustainability rules of the Premier League. The Blues already sold two of the home-grown players Lewis Hall and Ian Maatsen in this summer transfer window. Lewis Hall joined Newcastle and Ian Maatsen joined Aston Villa. Now, Conor Gallagher is the next on that list, who could leave Chelsea this season. The English international was heavily linked with Atletico Madrid. But after Samuel Omorodion refused to join Chelsea, the future of Gallagher is looking uncertain right now.

The future of Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher

Conor Gallagher was about to join Spanish side Atletico Madrid from Chelsea this summer. At the same time, Chelsea are on the verge of signing Samuel Omorodion from the Spanish side. Everything was almost done before Samuel Omorodion refused to join the Blues at the very last moment. Omorodion felt disrespected by the proposal of Chelsea. As Samuel Omorodion’s move to Chelsea has collapsed at the very last moment, the transfer move of Conor Gallagher is now on a hold phase. The English international already come back to London and waiting for the final outcome from both Clubs.

As, Chelsea failed to sign Samuel Omorodion, the Blues are now linked with another Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix. In the last two seasons, Felix was roaming around various clubs on loan spells. It was a bit difficult for the Portuguese to get back to the main squad in Atletico Madrid. That’s why Chelsea are considering Joao Felix as their next target. If Felix is willing to join Chelsea, Conor Gallagher’s move could happen in the future. Additionally, Felix previously played with Chelsea during his loan spell at Stamford Bridge.

What is next for Conor Gallagher?

Conor Gallagher came from the Chelsea academy before making his senior team appearances for the Blues. Before the 2022/ 23 season, Gallagher completed four loan spells in order with Charlton Athletic, Swansea City, West Bromwich Albion, and Crystal Palace. Last season particularly the English international enjoyed a lot on the pitch and gave his career-best form so far. The 24-year-old made 50 appearances last season and scored 7 goals. He was the main man for the center midfielder zone for the Blues. However, his performance did not guarantee his position under his new boss Enzo Maresca. So, a move to a new club will give Gallagher a fresh start in his career.

Atletico Madrid is making some interesting moves in this summer transfer window to compete in the next season of La Liga. They just completed the purchase of Julian Alvarez from Manchester City for 80M and signed a six-year contract with the Argentinian. Conor Gallagher has been under the radar of Atletico Madrid since the transfer window opened after the English international’s brilliant performance with Chelsea.

More Chelsea news

Chelsea sealed the move of Portuguese winger Pedro Neto from Premier League side Wolves earlier this week. The Portuguese joined the Blues for a transfer fee of 60M, becoming the tenth player to join the Blues in this summer transfer window. Chelsea unveiled all of their new signings before their final pre-season friendlies against Inter Milan at Stamford Bridge.

While new players are coming in, gaps are still much clearer in the Chelsea squad. The Blues conceded 13 goals in their last six games, including a 4-1 loss to Celtic. Enzo Maresca has to make changes to improve the chemistry of the team. The new Chelsea boss will be tested again when he faces Pep Guardiola’s mighty Manchester City in their opening match in the Premier League.
