Suryakumar Yadav part of an unwanted list among Indians

Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav is currently experiencing a rough patch in ODI cricket, struggling to connect with the ball. He failed to replicate his T20I success. In the series finale of the 3-match ODI series against Australia, left-arm spinner Ashton castled Suryakumar Yadav for a first-ball duck.

This marked the third consecutive time that Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed for a golden duck in the ongoing ODI series, setting an unfortunate record as the first Indian batsman to be dismissed for a first-ball duck in all matches of an ODI series. In both the ODIs, Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed for a first-ball duck by Mitchell Starc. He trapped him LBW with his inswinging deliveries.

Record Suryakumar Yadav don’t want to be part of

It is worth noting that several Indian cricketers, including Sachin Tendulkar, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Anil Kumble, have also registered three consecutive ducks in ODI cricket. However, the world record for the most successive ducks in ODIs is four. Five players have achieved it, including Lasith Malinga, Craig White, and Henry Olonga. Suryakumar Yadav has now joined the list of Indian players with three ducks in a row in ODIs.

In the third ODI between India and Australia, Suryakumar Yadav’s dismissal came at a crucial juncture during India’s chase. Agar had previously dismissed Virat Kohli for 54, the previous delivery, bringing Australia back into the game.

Agar was on a hat-trick in the 36th over, but Jadeja stopped him. Yadav was picked in the XI as a replacement for the injured Shreyas Iyer, but he was demoted to No. 7 instead of his usual No. 4 position. Despite getting out for three successive ducks, head coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma had supported Yadav. They said that he would get a chance to bat in upcoming matches.
