Suryakumar Yadav’s heroics ensure India’s clean sweep over WI

The Men In Blue became the numero uno in world T20I rankings as the Windies succumbed in the series finale in Eden Gardens. Prior to the 3rd T20I, India had taken an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the series. The visitors thus went into the field to play for their pride and in hope that they end the tour on a positive note. Caribbean skipper Kieron Pollard opted to field first on the batting-friendly track of Kolkata.

After Bishnoi , Avesh Khan makes his debut in the series

Team India made a few changes in the XI to rest the senior players like Kohli, Pant, Chahal, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Speedstar Avesh Khan made his debut while opener Ruturaj Gaikwad came into the XI as well. India were off to a shaky start as Holder cheaply dismissed Gaikwad in the 3rd over off a leading edge into the hands of Mayers. The Caribbean spinners were impressed once again as they kept the run flow in check in the powerplay.

Yadav-Iyer’s blitzkreig give hosts edge

Team India lost two wickets in quick succession as Iyer and Kishan departed after stitching a crucial 50 run stand in the middle. Rohit Sharma struggled to settle down in the middle overs and eventually was bamboozled by Drakes in his first over. Suryakumar Yadav and Venkatesh Iyer blasted in the death overs to ensure India reaches to a formidable total. The duo added 86 runs in the last five overs shifting the momentum towards the Indian camp at the innings break.

Windies batting woes persist

The Windies had to chase down a target of 185 to register their sole victory in the entire tour. Deepak Chahar sprinted in sublime form to dismiss both the openers in consecutive overs, leaving the hosts scrambling in the powerplay. Unfortunately, Chahar failed to complete his 2nd over after a hamstring pull forced him to walk off the field. Caribbean batting star Nicholas Pooran took charge of the attack once again. He hit his 3rd successive fifty in the series as a testament to his scintillating form. However, the same tale resurfaced for the visitors as none of the remaining batters could assist Pooran to dominate the hosts.

Thakur-Patel excel in the death, Pooran’s knock not enough for WI

Lord Shardul Thakur took a blinder to dismiss power-hitter Rovman Powell, failing to time the slower one from Patel to perfection. Skipper Pollard’s rough patch continued after Venky Iyer claimed his wicket in the 9th over. Wickets were falling in tandem, as India was en route to seal another series triumph. Harshal Patel and Shardul Thakur shined in the death overs. Their tight bowling gave no chance to the power-hitters to accelerate. Windies finished at 167-9 and were handed another humiliating defeat after the ODI series. Team India had a lot of positives in the entire series.

The Jodi of SKY-Iyer has become a formidable batting pair in the middle overs. Skipper Sharma heaped praises on the seamers for their outstanding performance throughout. Suryakumar Yadav bagged both the Player Of The Match and Player of The Series award and has grown to become a consistent finisher in his brief stint.

Brief scores: India: 184/5 in 20 overs (Suryakumar Yadav 65, Venkatesh Iyer 35*; Roston Chase 1-23) beat West Indies: 167/9 in 20 overs (Nicholas Pooran 61, Romario Shepherd 29; Harshal Patel 3-22) by 17 runs.
