Delhi Capitals head coach, Ricky Ponting in an interview said that India should consider having Pant as a ‘floater’.
The former Australian player and captain has worked closely with Pant and feels that he is a dangerous batsman.
Ponting also feels that the fast, flat and bouncy pitches will help Pant’s batting a lot as well.
He also reckoned that Pant is one of the players to watch out for in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup.
Ponting placed Pant at No.5 in India’s batting lineup but he also added that his position should remain flexible within the XI.
When Pant was asked about his ‘floater’ position, he was not too enthusiastic about the idea.
He wanted to have a proper playing XI but he added if the situation demands a floating batting lineup, then they will certainly use it.
Ponting also called Pant a very dynamic and explosive player for India.
In his 14 IPL games this year, Pant has scored only 340 runs at an average of 30.91.
Ponting also mentioned that Pant was quite frustrated with his performance this year.
He also admitted to Ponting that he is not getting the desired results which he deserves.
But, Ponting made sure to keep Pant and the team’s morale boosted throughout the tournament.
