According to Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag, the squad “needs more options” next season. The Dutch tactician is urging the board to get more players over the line before the season starts.

The Red Devils have already enforced their squad with three players: Left-back Tyrell Malacia, midfielder Christian Eriksen, and defender Lisandro Martinez. Malacia played a role in the team’s preseason trips to Thailand and Australia. Eriksen and Martinez are expected to make their debuts against ga duo La Liga duo Atletico Madrid and Rayo Vallecano next weekend.

Manchester United are still in pursuit of Frenkie de Jong, but a deal looks difficult at this stage. The midfielder is reportedly not interested in a move to Manchester United. The Red Devils are also rumoured to be interested in Ajax forward Antony.

What Was Said

Ten Hag spoke to the press ahead of a friendly against Aston Villa. He reiterated the need for more bodies as it could be a gruelling season ahead. The presence of a World Cup in between the season would be another factor to weigh in

I am really happy also with the performances of our midfield department and offensive department at this moment. But I also know about this season. We talk about it in Bangkok and Melbourne. it’s a lot of games, the World Cup, so we need more options where you have a good team, and it’s not only about the team. you need a good squad to get the right results at the end of the season.

So we have to strengthen the squad even more and we are looking around but we also need the right players. There is a reason in a number of games you need more options in offence, clear. I think it’s vital if you want to get success, the season is really long but we still also have time to fill that in. Back in Manchester Eriksen, Martinez will join in, we have more options. I think they can quite quickly integrate into the team.

Manchester United And The Future of Ronaldo

The club is still unsure of when Cristiano Ronaldo will return. He is still pushing for a summer transfer away from Manchester United.

Questions have been raised about his work rate and suitability in Ten Hag’s system. With Marcus Rashford, Antony Martial and Jadon Sancho all being in good form during the pre-season, Ten Hag will have a new problem of integrating Ronaldo into the team.
