The 23-year-old Liverpool midfielder is shining as the Reds beat Chelsea by 2-1

Liverpool beat Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea by 2-1 in the last week in the Premier League to retain their position at the top of the table in the league. It was a great performance by the whole Liverpool team as they managed to beat Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea. However, one player stole the show and that is Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones. Jones made his only second start in this Premier League and it was a great start for the English midfielder into the new season.

It was the show of Curtis Jones against Chelsea as the Reds beat the Blues by 2-1

Despite being the best team in the whole first half, Chelsea conceded the opening goal in the match after the Liverpool winger converted the penalty provided to the Reds in the 29th minute. Liverpool went to the first-half interval with one goal lead into their hand. Chelsea did manage to score the equalizer at the start of the second half. But Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones scored the second goal for Liverpool to make it 2-1 three minutes after the equalizer. Mo Salah was the goalscorer in the first goal, and the provider in the second one. Curtis Jones was the man of the match after his stunning performance in the match.

Curtis Jones no doubt is one of the best talents Liverpool currently have in the squad. The Liverpool academy graduate made his professional debut in 2018. The midfielder was mainly used as a good squad player under former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. New manager Arne Slot is also using the same tactics keeping him as a backup option under Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Ryan Gravenberch. However, as pretty heavy fixtures are waiting for Liverpool in the upcoming four weeks including European football and a trip to Emirates, Arne Slot has to give the main three midfielders some rest.

Should Jones need to get more time under Arne Slot?

Curtis Jones used the opportunity brilliantly. The 23-year-old was brilliant in his second start in the Premier League against Chelsea. Jones is very good with the ball in tight positions. He can handle the pressure brilliantly with the ball on his feet. In fact against Chelsea, the midfielder was so good in the tight position. The 23-year-old in fact helped the Reds to win the penalty in the first half and created two brilliant chances. He had 56 touches in the match including four touches in Chelsea’s box, and kept 90% pass complexion in the match.

There is no doubt that Jones is a great talent. His intelligence on the pitch is something to watch. However, the Liverpool midfielder was lacking in goal contributions and that might forced him to remain a good squad player. However, this season is totally different for him. Curtis Jones started this season with a new height under the new manager. He often goes high up to the pitch to create more problems for the defenders of the opponent team. Even in the Chelsea match, Jones followed the same tactics. He often went up to the pitch to create more chances for the Reds. That ultimately helped Liverpool to score the second goal.

During the summer transfer window, Liverpool were linked with Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi for a possible move. However, that deal never happened. Liverpool boss Arne Slot is happy with the options available in the squad. Looks like those tactics might just clicked for both Liverpool and Arne Slot. Curtis Jones will get more playing time in the future. However, he needs to perform brilliantly in the long term in order to get the position in the starting lineup more and more. For now, the trio of Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Ryan Gravenberch might continue for the Reds in the midfield zone.
