Chelsea were eager to sign Michael Olise from Crystal Palace this summer, however, his wage demands led Chelsea to leave the race. The Blues were looking to sign him last summer but the French winger signed a new contract with the Eagles. Although Olise’s latest contract with the Premier League club was until 2027, he chose to move this summer. Chelsea began talks recently for the 22-year-old but unfortunately, the deal did not fall into place. Instead, the winger completed a move to Bayern Munich a few days ago. Olise’s decision to move to the German club was mainly to play Champions League football next season. Moreover, moving to Stamford Bridge was not on the charts for Olise, unless he was becoming Chelsea’s highest paid player. However, the Blues did not want to pay such an exorbitant price for their transfer target.
Olise’s performance in the recent season attracted top clubs
Michael Olise was a target for several top clubs this summer. Along with Bayern Munich, even Manchester United and Manchester City were keen on signing him. Although the winger signed a new contract with the Eagles last summer, a release clause in the deal made him available this summer. Thus, the 22-year-old chose to move to the Allianz Arena. Bayern Munich got Olise for £60 million, which was a difficult amount for the other clubs. Additionally, with the Blues having Cole Palmer, Raheem Sterling, Mykhailo Mudryk, and Noni Madueke on their side, losing the French man wasn’t a big deal. The new Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca chose to back off from signing Olise because he did not want to risk breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules. Therefore, with the German giants willing to pay that price for Olise and him getting to play Champions League football next season, the deal fell into place perfectly.
Crystal Palace have begun searching for Olise’s replacement
Olise became a regular starter for Crystal Palace in the recently concluded season. The France youth international scored 10 goals and gave six assists in 19 Premier League matches. Moreover, Crystal Palace’s manager, Oliver Glasner was full of praise for the winger. Along with Olise, another player whose progress was seen is Eberechi Eze. The attacking duo helped the Eagles achieve a tenth-place finish in the Premier League. Along with Glasner, even the Crystal Palace defender, Joachim Anderson was impressed with Olise and Eze.
While speaking about the duo early in the season, Anderson said,
“Every team wants to have them. We haven’t seen them so much this season together but every time they’ve been playing together, they’ve been unbelievable.”
The Danish footballer further added,
“Everyone is wishing them to stay fit and to keep playing how they do and then they can score goals like today.”
Unfortunately, the Eagles will have to look for a replacement for Michael Olise this summer. Moreover, they will have to work towards keeping Eze and Marc Guehi on their side for the next season. Both the players are receiving heavy interest from other clubs but the Eagles cannot afford to lose any more star players. Additionally, according to reports, Olise’s move to Bayern Munich was suitable for the club and the player considering the amount Crystal Palace got for him. The Eagles are already eyeing players who could be potential fits to replace the French youngster. One player on their radar at the moment is Lazio’s Daichi Kamada. Crystal Palace could get the 27-year-old on a free transfer because his contract with Lazio ends this summer.
