‘They are very happy’ – Andreas Stella predicts Ferrari’s success in 2023

David Coulthard FIA

McLaren boss Andreas Stella has kept his views on Ferrari’s car development as Ferrari also seems happy with the ongoing development.

Ferrari endured a rather tough season in 2022. They dominantly started the season as they looked like the fastest overall car. Also, their closest rival – Red bull seemed to have struggled with reliability. However, as the season progressed, things went downhill as the Scuderia started to have struggled with reliability accompanied by strategic blunders and unforced errors.

To overcome the disaster of the 2022 season, Ferrari has decided to have some changes in its management. The team has already replaced the team principal Mattia Binotto with Fred Vasseur. Everyone is expecting more changes to follow. Also, we might witness a change in approach for the 2023 title challenge. However, whether the approach will help or not remains under speculation. We will know for sure once the 2023 season ends.

McLaren has also got a new team principal. Andreas Stella replaced Andreas Seidl who left the side for the Sauber group. Regardless, Stella is a former employee of Ferrari and knows quite a lot of staff there. He knows Ferrari will have a better run in 2023 compared to their 2022 disaster. The 51-year-old has also tipped to expect a sharp reaction from Mercedes’s side.

The Silver Arrows closed the gap on their rivals Ferrari as the season progressed. However, the Brackley-based squad just couldn’t get that close to the 2022 runner-ups. Regardless, Stella has kept his view according to his deep inside knowledge of the sport:

In an interview, Stella said of Ferrari’s new car:

“I expect a big reaction from Mercedes, even though I know that at Ferrari they are very happy with the new car and so they will definitely have a competitive start.”
