Thomas Meunier to remain at Borussia Dortmund

Thomas Meunier will stay at Borussia Dortmund despite interest from multiple clubs. Barcelona and Manchester United were the clubs most interested in signing the player this season. However, Meunier is open to a move to Barcelona. But, Thomas Meunier will stay at Borussia Dortmund despite interest from multiple clubs.

Meunier moved to Dortmund from PSG in 2020. He is a consistent and reliable player for Dortmund for the last two years. Barcelona were very interested in signing Meunier as a replacement for Sergio Dest. Xavi wants players with experience who can aid and guide the youngsters already on the team. As such, Meunier was the perfect player in the right back fitting Xavi’s criteria. However, Dortmund’s wish to not sell Meunier means that Barcelona have to look elsewhere for alternatives

Manchester United had also expressed their interest in signing Meunier this summer. The arrival of a new right-back will have provided competition and cover for the first-choice right-back Diogo Dalot. Aaron Wan Bissaka is free to leave the club this season. He was linked with a move to his former club Crystal Palace this season. However, nothing has materialized as of yet.

Dortmund firm on Meunier stance

There was a lot of hype about Meunier’s move away from Dortmund following the approach of the end of this season’s transfer window. However, those rumors were squashed by Dortmund’s technical director Sebastian Kehl. Speaking to Ruhr Nachrichten, Kehl said:

“The transfer window is still open until next week, but we have no intention of selling Thomas Meunier. There will be another wild ride from Monday onwards. But I refer that overall to the market. Currently, it is absolutely not our plan to sell him. We have no intention of selling Thomas Meunier”
