Thomas Tuchel considers this current Chelsea star bigger than Didier Drogba

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel recently stated that N’Golo Kante is a bigger star than Drogba at Stamford Bridge.

Kante has been consistently delivering for Chelsea since joining the club in 2016. However, he remains underrated after winning the Premier League, Champions League with the club, and even the World Cup.

Drogba, on the other hand, is considered a living legend. He was instrumental in winning three Premier Leagues and a Champions League with the club between 2005 and 2010.

However, Tuchel feels that Kante deserves more praise than he gets. Moreover, he added that Kante has been key behind Chelsea’s success in recent years.

When asked if Kante can be compared to Drogba, Tuchel replied:

For sure, but because he is not that obvious, he is not in the spotlight, he is even more important for a team because a guy like N’Golo with the mentality of a helper, a water carrier, this makes the difference and big teams and successful teams need this.”

That’s why we love him so much, and everybody wants to play with him and why we miss him so much when he is not there.”

What is the reason behind Thomas Tuchel’s praise of Kante?

Kante caught the eye of the elite clubs after his momentous performance in winning the Premier League with Leicester City in 2016.

That same year, he was brought on board to Chelsea. Arsenal was also interested in the Frenchman, however, Chelsea won the race to sign the player.

After spending six years at Chelsea, Kante has amassed 259 appearances and scored 12 times. Moreover, he has won four major trophies with the club.

His contract runs out next summer.

He has missed the majority of matches due to a number of injuries that kept him out for months.

Tuchel’s described Chelsea’s third-place finish in the Premier League as a ‘miracle’. He could not believe that despite Kante not playing for them-they could finish third.

He added,” I think he is our key, key, key player; but key, key, key players need to be on the pitch.”
