Former Tottenham Hotspur manager, Tim Sherwood, has raised his concern over one star player after their match against Everton. Sherwood believes Tottenham goalkeeper, Guglielmo Vicario, was not “brave enough” in his performance, which costed his side.
Ange Postecoglou’s men played a 2-2 draw against Everton at Goodison Park recently. Though, it was a disappointing result for them as they were a better team throughout the game. The former North London boss was critical of the Italian goalkeeper and his ineffective judgement during set-pieces.
The summer signing was a major weakness in his game, which was clearly visible. Moreover, he struggled in set-pieces against against Manchester City in the FA Cup as well. Therefore, now, it is evident that the summer signing has a weakness in his game.
Both the teams tested him at setpieces and the 27-year old was a little bit timid as well. Speaking on Premier League productions, Sherwood slamed the goalkeeper by saying,
“He was like a fish, he was in the net. I mean he has gone so far back that he has to step forward and he has to put some pressure on Branthwaite and make him flinch first. But there was only one person flinching, and that was Vicario, unfortunately.
But it’s not only this game, he is going to get targeted now, especially from corners. At the end there, when he needed to be brave, he wasn’t brave enough. When nowhere near him, he is quality. He goes and takes anything.”
The Italian will be aware of his weakness and must be working on it. Although, his ball distribution and shot saving abilities are brilliant without a doubt. If he can figure out this one problem, he can be a major star for Tottenham in the years to come.
