Cole Palmer has written his name into the history book of Premier league as he becomes the first player to score four goals in the first half.
Brighton took the lead early on against Chelsea but they weren’t ready for the “Cold Palmer” storm coming for them. The England international sunk the Seagulls in just a span of 20 minutes. It was simply outrageous from the 22-year old.
Palmer scored in the 21st, 28th, 31st and 41st minute respectively. This is his second 4-goal haul for the Blues’. His first one was against Everton in a 6-0 thumping at the Stamford Bridge.
He is the second in the top scorer and top assist provider race currently with 6 goals and 4 assists. He has the most G/A in the league along with Erling Haaland.
The scary thing is he could’ve scored six on Saturday afternoon, as one was disallowed and one of his shots hit the woodwork. What he is doing at this age is simply outstanding. He is carrying this Chelsea team on his shoulders just like how Eden Hazard used to do. Brighton simply couldn’t cope up with the brilliance of this young man.
Former England striker, Gary Lineker, was out of breath after watching this masterclass. Speaking to the BBC Match of the Day he says;
“Every time I see him, he takes my breath away. An extraordinary footballer. Of all the talented players England have got, he might be the best of the lot.”
Cole Palmer: “The Bergkamp of Chelsea.”
Cole Palmer has been carrying this topsy-turvy Chelsea team since last season. Without him, probably the Blues’ would’ve been relegated last season.
“Manchester City’s boy, is now Chelsea’s man.” This quote resonates around every football fan whenever he steps into the pitch nowadays. He has given the Chelsea fans a new ray of light to look upto.
His abilty to turn games on its head, with his sheet class and finesse is worth praising even if you’re a rival fan. What he is doing right now, is something what Hazard used to do back in his prime. Pep Guardiola must be kicking his seat at his home as well after watching this performance.
Palmer’s numbers at Chelsea are simply astonishing. He is now on three Premier League hat-tricks since joining the club. That is the joint-most for Chelsea, alongside Blues’ legends Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Frank Lampard.
The England international is the ninth player to score four goals in two or more Premier League games, after legends such as Frank Lampard, Sergio Aguero, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Dimitar Berbatov, Yakubu, Andy Cole, Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler.
He has been directly involved in 43 goals in the Premier league for Chelsea, which is massive. He is the spine of Enzo Maresca’s team, all the creativity and output is provided by him.
Arsenal legend Theo Walcott praised the youngster saying he’s got a bit of Bergkamp in him. He says;
“He has got a bit of finesse, Bergkamp, Van Persie about him, and they weren’t bad at all.”
Chelsea end Brighton’s high flying unbeaten run
Chelsea are flying right now, with Cole Palmer being their pilot. The team is finally playing like how a “billion dollar” squad should be playing like.
The Blues’ were patient enough to sit back with 36% of possession in the first half and exploit Brighton’s high line. After the 20 minute mark, Maresca’s men unleashed themselves.
Palmer completed his sensational hat-trick within 10 minutes after netting a Messi-esque free-kick from 30-yards distance. Brighton pulled one back from cheap mistake in the back, but weren’t quick enough to deal with their opposition.
Chelsea could’ve hit more than 6-7 goals, most of them were disallowed. Palmer hit the woodwork as well. However, Chelsea’s need for a striker is clear as Jackson had yet another average performance. He keeps missing simple chances consistently.
Jadon Sancho has made a brilliant start to his Chelsea career, he has provided three assists in three appearances for the Blues’. He looks confident playing football now.
Defensively, there were mistakes which led to the goals but in the second half the backline managed to keep its shape brilliantly. Much improved performance.
The manager hailed Palmer as the “best” player in the league speaking in the post match conference. He says;
“What he was as a boy is exactly what he was three or four years ago. Goals, assists, best player of the Premier League – this doesn’t change the way he is. He’s a humble guy and for me it’s the most important thing.”
“He scored four but he also could have scored two or three more.“It’s important he stays hungry and ambitious.”
After making a poor start to the season, the Blues’ are now just two points off the summit after playing 6 games. The way they are playing right now, it is felt that they would challenge for the top 4 spot this season.
