Toto Wolff sends a clear message to the FIA

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has again made his stand clear to the FIA on the cost cap scandal.

FIA deemed red bull guilty of a budget cap breach in 2021 after the governing body awarded a certificate of compliance to all but two teams – red bull and Aston Martin. Red bull is guilty of “minor” overspending whereas Aston Martin did a procedural breach.

FIA is yet to announce a penalty for the issue. Red bull on the other hand continues to deny any breach from their side.

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has been highly vocal on the drama. There is a possible penalty of deduction of championship points. This means Lewis Hamilton can secure the 2021 championship if FIA thinks of giving that penalty to Red Bull and Max Verstappen.

However, currently, this seems highly improbable.

Wolff has already told everyone to “move on” and has no problem with Verstappen keeping his 2021 title. However, Toto Wolff believes that the FIA needs to make the regulations and penalties “fairer and clearer”

“I don’t know the exact excess, but one or two million can decide a championship. The FIA has to make a meaningful decision,”

The Austrian said to an Italian Newspaper.

“I just don’t think the 2021 title should be in doubt anymore.”

‘This is useful for the future so that everything is fairer and clearer.'”

“The financial regulations are like the technical and sporting regulations. If you made a technical mistake, you get a penalty for it. That should also apply to the financial regulations, even if it is new.”

The controversy just keeps on going as FIA is believed to have offered red bull an “accepted breach agreement.
