Tottenham Chase Archie Gray, After Brentford Offer Rejected

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham is pursuing Leeds United’s 18-year-old Archie Gray after Leeds turned down Brentford’s 40 million dollar offer. The 18-year-old is a target for Spurs to recruit during the summer transfer window. According to sources, negotiations between the two teams over Gray are progressing nicely, and it looks likely that the Spurs will sign the young player.

According to some reports, for Archie Gray, Tottenham Hotspur have to pay around 25 million to 30 million transfer fee along with Spurs defender Joe Rodon. Joe Rodon, was previously on a loan spell from Spurs to Leeds last season. So, it is expected that he will be making a permanent move to Elland Road after the deal is complete.

Brentford offered 40M for Archie Gray. The 18-year-old traveled to Brentford for the medical test on Saturday, but the two clubs failed to come to a final agreement as Leeds knocked down the offer over the structure of the deal.

Archie Gray In Leeds United

Gray had a brilliant season with Leeds United last season, playing 52 matches for Leeds in all competitions. Although Gray plays primarily as a midfielder, the 18-year-old can play in the right-back position as well. The England U-21 contributed significantly to Leeds United, helping the club to finish in the 3rd place. However, he missed out on the promotion to the English top flight from the championship after losing the playoff final to Southhampton by 1-0. In April this year, Archie Gray was awarded the EFL Championship Young Player of the Season because of his brilliant performance for Leeds. In January, Gray signed a new long-term deal with Leeds United.

As per some reports, Spurs Boss Ange Postecoglu wanted to sign three new players after Spurs failed to finish top within the Champions League position last season. One of the signings was a central midfielder. Spurs are also tracking Conor Gallagher of Chelsea and Jacob Ramsey of Aston Villa for the center midfielder position. As Archie Gray can play both the right back and midfield position, he will suit that position perfectly and will add some extra positional option to Ange Postecoglu. Leeds will also need to sell some of their players after missing out on promotion to the premier league.

Spurs included Joe Rodon in this deal. The Walsh international was on a loan at Elland Road and made 50 appearances for them. So, he will join the club on a permanent deal Rodon joined Spurs back in 2020 from Swansea but failed to get a position in the starting lineup, and completed several loan spells over the years.
