Tottenham edge past Manchester United in a thriller

Tottenham Hotspurs have edged past Man United in the Carabao cup clash. The north London side have progressed to the semi-final of the competition and will be hoping to end their trophy drought this season. Man United were poor in the set-piece situations as usual which eventually costed them the game. Not the start Ruben Amorim expected to have in his new journey.

Both the teams rotated the squad and backup goalkeepers featured at each end. It was a disastrous day for both sides as constant blunders made the game chaotic. Spurs took a three nil lead and nearly bottled it due to individual mistakes. However, Son scored a sensational Olimpico goal which gave them a much needed two goal cushion. Jonny Evans scored a late goal which ended up as a consolation.

Man United Player Ratings vs Tottenham Hotspurs

As a chaotic game of football ended in the favour of the home side, we’ll take a look at the player ratings of Manchester United.

Goalkeeper and Defence:

Altay Bayindir (3/10):

The Turkish goalie made several blunders in this game which costed Man United the game. He had no confidence as the game progressed. This is a huge setback for the young lad.

Leny Yoro (4.5/10):

The young lad has found it difficult to adjust to his new club. His technicality was on point but he lacked vision. Lots of improvement needed.

Victor Lindelรถf (4/10):

The Swede international has been struggling with injuries lately. His return didn’t go as planned because he picked up yet another injury.

Lisandro Martinez (4.5/10):

The “Butcher”s blades weren’t sharp enough on the day to make a difference. He was constantly dominated by Solanke in aerial duels. Poor game from the Argentine.

Man United Midfield:

Noussair Mazraoui (6/10):

The Moroccan tried to showcase his pace and was a threat from the wing. However, defensively he couldn’t mark his targets which needs improvement.

Christian Eriksen (5/10):

The midfield ace didn’t influence the game enough and was slow in possession. Had to be subbed off early.

Manuel Ugarte (5.5/10):

The young lad has a lot more to do to cement his place in the club. His man marking 6needs a lot of improvement.

Diogo Dalot (7/10):

One of the best players on the pitch for Manchester United. He was a massive threat from the left hand side and created the most chances for them.

Forwards:

Antony (4/10):

The Brazilian isn’t performing like one. Failing to influence the game and was struggling to get the ball moving had him hooked.

Bruno Fernandes (6.5/10):

He tried his level best for the team and created many chances. However, the final third let him down at times.

Rasmus Hรธjlund (6/10):

The Danish international was good in build up play but didn’t get enough help up front. His team needs to provide him more opportunities up front.

Man United Substitutes:

Alejandro Garnacho (3/10):

Wasteful up front, didn’t influence the game at all.

Joshua Zirkzee (6/10):

He netted a goal and looked lively on the pitch. Nearly turned the game around for United’s favour.

Kobbie Mainoo (5.5/10):

United’s starboy wasn’t as good as he usually is. Didn’t get much help from the team.

Amad Diallo (7/10):

Manchester United’s starboy netted yet another goal and provided the flair Amorim was hoping for.

Jonny Evans (5/10):

The veteran was poor defensively and marked the opposition poorly. However, he scored a goal which ended up as a consolation.

Author’s Opinion:

I feel Man United need to organise their defence a lot more than they do. Ruben Amorim has to work on defending their set piece situations as it is costing them a lot of goals. Offensively they must improve as well.

Bruno Fernandes is lacking the cutting edge up front, the veteran players aren’t performing as per expectations. The midfield often looks clueless which ends up costing them the game. Yet another trophy opportunity gone for Man United.
