Tottenham Hotspur player ratings for goalless draw against Brentford

Tottenham Hotspur, Six Sports

Tottenham Hotspurs again put up a disappointing show against a determined Brentford team. It was an emotional match for the Spurs fans as Christian Eriksen and Spurs met.

This dull draw against the Bees means that the road to the top four becomes more difficult for Spurs. This frustrating result leaves Spurs two points behind their London rivals Arsenal in the quest for a Champions League berth next season.

Antonio Conte’s side seemed lethargic and struggled to get the ball. The hosts played the better football throughout the match. Brentford striker Ivan Toney hit the woodwork twice- once the crossbar and once the post.

The visitors, on the other hand, failed to keep a shot on goal. This was the second time consecutively that they failed to keep a shot on target. It was unexpected of a Spurs side that has heavyweight strikers like Harry Kane and Heung-min Son.

With five games to go, it is an advantage for Arsenal in the North London derby which is scheduled on May 12.

Conte was clearly disappointed with his side’s performance. He said,

” We didn’t deserve three points”. “Now we have to try to prepare for the last five games in the best possible way and stay in this race. The draw was fair. We have to accept this. We’re trying to do our best.” He still hopes that Spurs can spark a miracle and secure a birth for next year’s Champions League.

Tottenham Hotspur Player ratings

Hugo Lloris 5/10

Not a great performance considering his standards, however, he did deny Eriksen which Kane cleared from the goal line. His kicking also seemed panicky.

Cristian Romero 7/10

Was the standout player for Spurs in the match. He made a couple of good interceptions and tackles.

Eric Dier 5/10

Plenty of mispasses from the back seemed lethargic. Another off-key performance from the English centre back.

Emerson Royal 5/10

Could not make a way forward and deliver balls in the box. Apart from the sole cross to Kane, which did not fructify. However, he was strong defensively.

Hojbjerg 5/10

Defensively robust, but could not create enough chances for the creative players.

Rodrigo Bentancur 4/10

Some nice touches but failed to leave a mark on the game.

Ryan Sessegnon 4/10

Very nervy from the start. Though he made an important interception in the box, apart from that a dull display of football.

Dejan Kulusevski 4/10

Could barely be seen in the whole match.

Harry Kane 6/10

Made a crucial goal-line save. Tried to create some openings for himself. Attempted a good shot that just went past the goalpost.

Heung-min Son 4/10

A couple of runs but nothing of much vigour.
