Arsenal have announced that manager, Mikel Arteta, has signed a new long-term contract with the club. Arteta joined the club back in 2019, following the departure of Unai Emery.
The 42-year old has extended his contract by adding 3 more years to his current contract with the club. The board has been extremely happy with his contribution to the Gunners’ recently, and are keen on working with him in the foreseeable future as well.
The club feels that the Spaniard is the best man in charge to anchor Arsenal’s ship. He won the FA Cup in his first season in charge of the Gunners. It was his first silverware as a manager.
The 42-year-old had been criticised often during his first few seasons for missing out on European competitions. Arteta promised the fans to have faith in him and told them to “Trust the process.” It seems now that he wasn’t bluffing.
Arsenal have finished second to Man City in the Premier League for the past two seasons, qualifying for the Champions league consecutively. The manager has become a fan favourite now because of what he has built at the club. The Gunners’ now dare to dream because of Mikel Arteta.
The Spaniard knows how it feels to represent a club like Arsenal, having played for them in his illustrious career as a player.
Arteta spoke in a press conference about his ambitions at the club. He said;
“I feel extremely lucky to work every single day with good people and the ambition we have here.”
“I feel very inspired, I feel challenged, I feel supported and I want to do much more than what we’ve already done together.”
Arsenal co-chairman, Josh Kroenke, also expressed his delight, by saying;
“Mikel is a dynamic and passionate manager, who is relentless in the pursuit of excellence, he has a deep understanding of Arsenal’s values.”
Arteta’s Arsenal set to face the biggest challenge in his career so far
Mikel Arteta is keen on winning big piece of silverware this season for Arsenal. The Gunners’ have recruited new signings building a much powerful squad.
However, the 42-year-old faces a challenge which he has never faced before. He will miss the services of his three key midfielders for this game against Tottenham. Declan Rice is suspended, while skipper Martin Odegaard, and new signing, Mikel Merino, are out injured.
This is a crucial time for the Gunners’ as this time of the season sets the tone for the later half. They travel to defending Europa league champions Atalanta in the Champions league before facing Manchester City in the league.
This is one of the biggest tests for Mikel Arteta in his managerial career so far. Although the Gunners’ have won their previous three games against Spurs, there is a difference now.
However, the Gunners’ boss is optimistic and hopes to pull off a performance to remember on Sunday. Speaking to the media, he says;
“There are certain things that we cannot control and what happened in the last two weeks is extremely unlucky.”
“We have to face it, but hopefully during the season it will be very different.”
Arteta shares “great news” before the derby
Mikel Arteta shared a “great news” regarding Gabriel Jesus being fit before the derby. The Brazilian forward suffered a groin injury few weeks ago from which he has nearly recovered now.
Raheem Sterling could also feature for the Gunners’ as a false nine while Jesus can compliment him as another centre forward up top. This is a massive boost for the team following so many key players missing out due to injury and suspension.
Former Newcastle United legend, Alan Shearer, believes that Gabriel Jesus can be a match winner for Arsenal. He has produced such moments before for Arteta’s team.
Shearer speaking to the BBC says;
“It’s not just his goals and creativity that make him so important to them, it’s his relentless energy and willingness to run in behind defences too.”
“He’s the game-changer for Arsenal. He’s the one who sets the tone from the front. Defenders hate players who are prepared to run in behind, he does that. He’s the one who starts the press. You see his movement and his ability too.”
Arteta issued an update sharing the “great news” to the media saying;
“He’s got another session tomorrow and if everything goes well he’ll be ready to be selected in the squad which is great news for us.”
