Kalidou Koulibaly is a centerback in demand. The Senegalese defender is a powerhouse and has been admired by a number of top clubs for the past few years. However, a move away from Naples has never materialized so far. Aurelio De Laurentiis, president of Napoli football club has never considered any offer, and always demanded big money for him. With the defender turning 31 in a month’s time, perhaps he perhaps has one chance at securing a big move.
FC Barcelona are long time admirers. They will look toward him this summer to as Xavi looks to bolster his young squad. But Calcio Mercato claim that two surprising clubs will be in the race two: namely Newcastle and Aston Villa.
The two Premier League clubs may not be as prestigious of a choice for the defender, but they certainly have the financial muscle to pry him away from the Diego Maradonna Stadium. An offer of €35 million can be enough to secure his services.
Where Should Kaildou Koulibaly Go?
Both the aforementioned teams can easily cough up the reported money. Aston Villa have shown tremendous ambition in the last few windows. They have already started this summer with some stunning pieces of business. Sevilla’s Diego Carlos is a superb signing, and Koulibaly may be next on their radar.
A partnership of Koulibaly and Carlos can indeed be one of the meanest in the division. Newcastle on the other hand have had a change of fortunes since the takeover by the Saudis. The Magpies have been rejuvenated since the appointment of Eddie Howe, and their big buys in the January window propelled them to an 11th place finish this season. Further improvements can surely be made, and the Saudis are not afraid to spend.
On paper, FC Barcelona may seem the obvious choice. And there a number of strong reasons for it too. They are a young team on the rise, managed by one of the smartest brains football ha sever seen in Xavi Hernandez, and have Champions League football too. But one cannot discount Newcastle or Villa too. The Premier League is extremely lucrative, and it should not be that big of a surprise if the Senegalese chooses England over the Catalan giants.
