India‘s young guns went blazing once again as they beat Uganda U19 with a huge margin of 326 runs. This became the second-best victory margin in U19 cricket. Only Australia is ahead of India in this list.
The Indian batting lineup deserves all the credit as they piled up a massive score of 405 on the backs of Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Raj Bawa’s centuries. The duo added 206 runs to the Indian total.
Raj Bawa also broke Shikhar Dhawan‘s record of the highest individual score in the U19 World Cup by making 162 runs in 108 balls. He smashed eight sixes in his innings.
Angkrish also tried to surpass Shikhar Dhawan’s score but was dismissed on 144 off 120 balls, in which he hit 22 fours and four sixes.
Dhawan had made the highest individual score of 155 against Scotland in the 2004 edition of the tournament.
From the Ugandan bowlers, it was skipper Pascal Murungi, who stood out with 3 for 72 and was also the only batsman to notch a double-figure score for himself.
As far as the Indian bowlers were concerned, it was Nishant Sindhu who completely dominated the show by picking up four wickets and troubled the Ugandan batsmen as well.
The Man of the Match was given to Raj Bawa for his stellar performance.
His score of 162 will now be stamped in the history books of the U19 World Cup forever. It is one of his finest to date.
When asked who is his favorite cricketer, he said that he likes Yuvraj Singh and his style of batting.
I am very happy. I want to contribute in both forms of the game. I have met Yuvraj Singh who is my idol and have taken autographs.
He comes from Himachal Pradesh and is a proper all-rounder as he also bowls at high speeds.
The four-time champions will now compete against Bangladesh in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
India has also been hit by the COVID wave in the Caribbean. Captain Yash Dhull and several other players were found positive a few days back. They might return for the semis and thus will rest till the quarterfinal match.
