Chelsea midfielder Conor Galagher facing uncertainty with his future at Stamford Bridge, as Chelsea completed the signing of Leicester City midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. However, another Premier League side Aston Villa is tracking Conor Gallagher for a possible move in the summer.
Conor Gallagher started his career as a Chelsea graduate and joined the Blues at the age of eight. In 2018 Gallagher signed a new contract with Chelsea. However, the English midfielder roamed around various clubs in England. And completed four different loan spells before making his first-team debut for Chelsea in 2022. Since then the English international made 95 appearances for Chelsea. Last season Gallagher came on the pitch 50 times for the Blues across all competitions, registered 7 goals and 9 assists.
But the future of Conor Gallagher at Stamford Bridge is very uncertain after the Blues completed the signing of a new center midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. Kiernan was part of the Leicester City team, which earned a promotion last season and came back to the Premier League after one year of absence.
Last month the Blues announced Enzo Maresca as their new head coach, after his stunning success with Leicester City last season. Maresca guided Leicester to secure promotion and get back to the English top flight once again. So, it is expected that Kiernan will be a preferred player under Enzo Maresca’s time at Stamford Bridge. This created tension for Conor Gallegher.
The future of Conor Gallagher
Gallagher signed a five-year contract back in 2020, having one year left in his contract. According to Italian Journalist Gabriele Marcotti, Conor Gallagher will leave Stamford Bridge in the summer. Aston Villa keeps tracking the English midfielder for a possible move.
After the departure of star midfielder Douglas Luiz, Aston Villa is looking for a high-profile midfielder who could replace Luiz’s position. As both the players shared the same traits in their playing style, Gallagher is certainly the top target for Aston Villa. However, Aston Villa has not made any official offer for the 24-year-old.
Right now, Gallagher is on international duty with England at Euro 2024. Ahead of the tournament, the 24-year-old made clear that he has no intention to leave Chelsea and said,
“I’ve just been focusing on England and this is the most important thing right now, for me and the country. I am a Chelsea player right now and now I am just thinking about England and the tournament.”
Gallagher made clear about his future. But having one year left in his contract, no doubt lots of things are waiting before the start of the new season.
