Unfair to schedule India matches at T&T: Andy Roberts

India right now is paying white ball series against West Indies. India has sealed the ODI series by 3-0. Four of the eight games against West Indies has been scheduled in Trinidad and Tobago. On this issue, Caribbean bowling legend Andy Roberts has expressed his frustration. According to him, the crowd here has been vocal enough for the Indians. Thus, Cricket West Indies (CWI) is allegedly to gift excess support to the Men in Blue.

After the clear sweep, Indian skipper thanked the crowd for their enormous support- enjoyed playing three matches at Queen’s Park Oval.

The Non-television days weren’t different too: Andy Roberts

However, scheduling matches at Trinidad and Tobago is not new. During the non-television days, India enjoyed playing here. CWI never was a miser in offering India this venue. The main reason, as complained by Roberts. He alleged, CWI earned more revenues by this. Regarding this, he said,

“That is the way it has been. When we were playing, if we had five Test matches against India, two would be in Trinidad. It was because more people would come to watch those games. Those were the non-television days and more crowds in the ground had meant more revenue. It is no longer that way now, the revenue comes from the television but still the board plays more India games in Trinidad or Guyana. There is no reason to do that now.”

However, CWI president Ricky Sketritt doesn’t find any issue in Andy Roberts’ comments. According to Ricky, Roberts spoke his and has the right to do so. Ricky said,

Sir Andy Roberts is entitled to his opinion, of any kind, about anything to do with West Indies cricket.”

India and West Innings will facing each other again in a five match T-20I series. The series will start Friday. The first T-20I will be at the Brian Lara Stadium, Trinidad. The second two will be at The Warner Park at St. Kitts. The last 3 will be held at Florida, USA.
