Mbeumo Close to Sign for United in their Summer Rebuild

Manchester United are on the verge of signing Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo. After finalizing a £62.5 million deal for Matheus Cunha, United turned their focus to Mbeumo, making him their top forward target. Reports suggest the club has agreed to pay a base fee of £60 million. If the bonuses are included, the deal could rise to Brentford’s asking price of £65 million.

Transfer talks have progressed fast. And the deal is expected to be completed before pre-season training that starts on July 7. Mbeumo had an excellent season, as he scored 20 goals and assisting seven times in the Premier League. That kind of performance, especially from a mid-table side, has impressed United’s management. Manager Ruben Amorim sees him as a key player to energize United’s attack.

Why Mbeumo is Worth the Price

Mbeumo’s performance last season makes a strong case for the high transfer fee. In 42 games, he scored 20 times and provided seven assists. Nearly half of Brentford’s total league goals came from his boots. His ability of holding the ball, read the game, and play in different attacking roles suits Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system well.

He is quick, strong, and can press defenders high up the pitch. He also offers creative play from wide areas or just behind the striker. At United, he is expected to earn around £150,000 a week, similar to Cunha. This shows the club’s effort to build a balanced and focused squad. Mbeumo’s energy and quality make him a smart choice for a team looking to bounce back.

Transfer Nears Completion Despite Rival Interest

Brentford held firm on their £65 million demand, but United’s recent offer appears to have met it. With bonus clauses included, the final fee should satisfy all parties. Personal terms with Mbeumo have already been agreed, and he is now waiting for clearance to undergo a medical.

Tottenham and Newcastle also showed interest. But Mbeumo’s team made it clear he prefers a move to Old Trafford. This preference has helped Manchester United move ahead in the race. The club plans to make him their second attacking signing after Cunha. Talks are also ongoing for a central striker, showing that United are serious about rebuilding their forward line.

A Better Attack for the New Season

United’s attack was one of the weakest in the league last season, with only 44 goals scored. The need for change is clear. With Cunha and Mbeumo, United look ready to build a faster, smarter, and more flexible front line.

Mbeumo will add speed, drive, and smart movement to the attack. He creates chances and makes good runs behind defences—something United has missed. His average of two key passes per game shows he can also be a playmaker.

This move also fits United’s broader plan. The club wants to reduce the squad size, sell players like Rashford, Sancho, Garnacho, and Antony, and sign young, modern attackers who fit the system. This is less about big names and more about the right players.

Author’s Note

If this transfer goes through, it will be Brentford’s biggest sale ever. For United, it would mean spending over £125 million on two new forwards—a bold sign of intent. The club is clearly moving toward smart, system-based signings.

Mbeumo may not be a global superstar, but he is a proven Premier League player. He can score, assist, and press—all qualities United need. His choice of Old Trafford shows his hunger to grow and succeed.

This move is important for both sides. For Mbeumo, it’s a chance to reach a new level. For United, it’s a step toward fixing a key weakness. If handled right, it could be one of the smartest transfers of the summer.
