Van Dijk On Liverpool: The Reds Skipper Assures Fans

Van Dijk and Liverpool’s latest football updates as the skipper has assured fans of any fears regarding the PL title race.

Van Dijk & Liverpool: Virgil Dismisses Title Doubts

The Reds leader has dismissed any fears regarding their effort to win the PL title this year.

Arne Slot’s side earned a point at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday, with Diogo Jota securing the equalizer just 22 seconds after coming on after the substitution.

Slot’s team have won just three of their last seven Premier League games. But still are ahead of Arsenal.

“Ooh, so we are in a crisis now?” Netherlands defender joked on, when asked about Liverpool’s current form.

“It only confirms the Premier League is a very tough league where you play against opponents who are very good.

“It was always going to be tough, same with( Manchester) United at home with their new manager and the game plan they have been showing especially against the bigger teams.

“Every game is tough, we have to find a way to win and I think if we play like we did in the second half and keep fighting, keep trying, keep finding opportunities then I am very confident we will score goals as well like we have been doing all season.”

Including their 2-2 draw with Man Utd, the leaders have come from behind five times in their last seven league games. The 33-year-old praised the team’s character.

Van Dijk also added,”It shows resilience, no one wants to come from behind, we have to keep working on that and have everyone in the best shape to prevent that. All we can do is try to do it the next game better.”

Van Dijk on Liverpool’s Nottingham Forest Game

Speaking on the Forest game he said,” We should have won, could have won, but the reality is we take a point at a difficult ground.

“We created many chances and we could have won the game against the team that doesn’t concede many chances, they had kept clean sheets in the last four games so that says a lot.

“I think we could have scored at least a couple of goals.”

Virgil felt it wasn’t a performance they’ll be proud of after two points dropped at the City Ground. Chris Wood scored an early opener in the game, Matz Sels with a great performance against the Reds.

“It is a part of the game. We tried to force the equalizer and then the winner.” the skipper said.

“They sat back from the start anyway so there will be times that we are going to be one-v-one all over the pitch. Ryan was there anyway in certain moments and when I have to step up, I will try my best.

“I don’t feel like it was sacrificing (defensive cover). If you look at how they play, they are very compact with Chris Wood up top, basically a 4-5-1 set-up. So you could take the risk, if you want to call it a risk. If the press is god and you are reading the game well then you shouldn’t be in many problems.”

Van Dijk On Liverpool’s Title Charge So Far

The run of games they’ve had, the leaders deserve to be where they sit currently.

The Captain said, “You can’t be perfect all the time but the hard work we put in so far should gives the confidence to show who we are.

“That’s how I see it and we try to ensure everyone is thinking like that.

“So far this season, it has been going well. A draw (at Forest) and a draw United maybe doesn’t feel great, but we have another opportunity on Saturday.” They will be travelling to Brentford for their next game on the weekend.
