Napoli’s president has confirmed that Victor Osimhen will be leaving the club. With the transfer window rapidly approaching the Nigerian international has said that he is ready to join Premier League teams. Chelsea and Arsenal are both linked with a move for him. The Blues under their new boss will like to use Osimhen to lead their attack at Stamford bridge.
Enzo Maresca is set to take charge of the blues next season. Its not yet official but reported to be announced very soon by the club. Along with new manager, Chelsea also need to make some key signings for the next season. There are various positions where the club needs fast filling. One of those is striker position after the recent season. No striker proved to stay consistent and as a result Chelsea had a very hard time throughout all competitions.
The Blues are reported to part ways with some of their first choice players. The future of Chelsea strikers also seems to remain uncertain. Romelu Lukaku who is currently on loan to AS Roma is certain to get sold by the blues. Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku are available options for Chelsea but we have seen that Nkunku is better when he plays as a winger or attacking midfielder. Chelsea to find perfect number nine have been reported to various strikers with Victor Osimhen being one of those.
Osimhen fancies move to Stamford Bridge
Victor Osimhen has told that he is happy to join Premier League side. Along with Chelsea he is also ready to join Arsenal if they are interested. Arsenal are also reported to be looking for centre forward. The Gunners had a great season in scoring goals but their strikers didn’t play a big role in it. Eddie Nketiah could be seen moving away from Emirates. Gabriel Jesus’s future also don’t seem certain as the Brazilian has already lost his spot as a regular starter. If Arsenal decide to go for Osimhen they may have upper hand due to Chelsea’s financial issues regarding profitability and sustainability rules.
However if Chelsea decide to make an offer, the Nigerian international will happily join them. There are not yet advanced talks reported between the two parties. Osimhen signed a new contract with Napoli. According to his new contract his release clause is set around €130 million by the Italian side. Chelsea board is still discussing whether they can manage to pay such a huge fee. From Napoli’s side, the club president has already confirmed that the 25 year old striker will definately leave this summer. Victor Osimhen’s current market value is €110 million according to Transfermarkt. Chelsea will be willing to negotiate with Napoli regarding the transfer fee but Napoli currently seem to demand the full fee for their star striker. The upcoming days will decide whether Osimhen is able to achieve his wish of moving to Stamford bridge or not.
How important Osimhen was for Napoli
Napoli signed Osimhen in July 2020 for a club record fee around €80 million along with add-ons. Since then the Nigerian has made Napoli fans fall in love with him. Osimhen has played 132 games for Serie A side and has bagged 76 goals along with 18 assists. Napoli were crowned as champions of Italy last season where Osimhen was leading the attack. However Napoli has been very poor this season and have finished the season on 10th position in Serie A. There will be no European football for them next season which can be the another reason why Osimhen wants to leave. This season Osimhen played 24 games in Serie A due to injury. In those 24 appearances he has managed to score 15 goals and provide 3 assists.
