According to Football London, Victor Osimhen’s statement after not joining Chelsea this summer can upset the Blues’ fans. Victor Osimhen has decided to join Turkish club, Galatasaray, on a one-year loan deal, after endless pursuit from Chelsea all summer. Alongside Chelsea, Saudi side, Al-Ahli, were also ready to spend big money to bring the striker to the Saudi League.
However, a temporary move to Galatasaray was more appealing for Osimhen. Galatasaray signed the Nigerian striker on a loan deal for one season. The contract has a clause where the player can leave the club in January, if a suitable offer comes along.
The Osimhen transfer saga was stretched till the very last day of the transfer window. All the big clubs in the world were trying to secure the signature of the former Serie A top scorer. Moreover, Osimhen was pushing for a move out of Napoli due to a previous clash between the club and the player. The Nigerian striker is still relatively younger than some other European stars who play in the Saudi League. Many football fans are criticizing Osimhen’s move to Turkey. However, the Nigerian striker considered this a “very easy” decision.
Chelsea missed the opportunity to improve their attack
Chelsea were looking to sign a world-class striker this summer. However, the search still continues for them after missing out on their top transfer targets. Chelsea had the best chance of signing Victor Osimhen due to Napoli’s interest in their striker, Romelu Lukaku. However, Chelsea turned down the offer for a swap deal between the two players. The Blues considered Napoli’s asking price for the Nigerian striker, too expensive.
The Italian club offered a loan deal for Osimhen, which could not be completed after negotiations broke down with the player. Saudi club, Al Ahli, were ready to give the transfer fee for Victor Osimhen for a permanent move. However, this move was also not completed due to a lack of interest from the striker.
Napoli included a clause to extend Victor Osimhen’s loan deal till 2027. This will give the player and the club enough time regarding the future of the Nigerian. Napoli have also decided to reduce Osimhen’s release clause from 130 million (£110 million) to €75 million (£63 million). This will be a motivating factor for the top European clubs to sign the striker. However, Galatasaray will try their best to keep the striker, if Osimhen adapts well to life in Turkey.
Future of Victor Osimhen in Europe
Galatasaray have the reputation of being one of the most successful clubs in Turkey. The club has a great history, loyal fanbase, and competitive nature, which is exactly what is required for Victor Osimhen to thrive. The Nigerian striker has gotten a great chance to impress the big European clubs for the January transfer window.
Victor Osimhen will be join many great players at Gala, including former Napoli teammate, Dries Mertens. The partnership of Mertens and Osimhen at Napoli was a big factor for the Nigerian striker to come to Turkey. Their partnership was a key factor for Napoli’s success and the duo can replicate the same form with Galatasaray.
Galatasaray lost to Young Boys in the Champions League play-off games. The Turkish club are trying to get their former glory back and Osimhen can play a key role in that dream. Galatasaray are currently in second place in Süper Lig after winning all their three opening games. Osimhen’s arrival will add extra firepower in a squad of Mauro Icardi, Michy Batshuayi, and Dries Mertens. Fans have to wait for the next transfer window to know about Victor Osimhen’s future in Europe. It looks like Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca, will stick to Nicolas Jackson for the remainder of the season.
