Vijay on Prithvi Shaw exclusion from Indian T20 team

It’s no secret that the Indian cricket team is stacked with talent in both the batting and bowling departments. The top-order, in particular, boasts an abundance of skill. However, with the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli nearing their mid-thirties, it’s only a matter of time before India starts looking for replacements who can carry their legacy forward. Although players like Shubman Gill and KL Rahul have already made a name for themselves in the team, Prithvi Shaw is one player who is yet to prove himself on the big stage. The 23-year-old has played only five Tests, six ODIs, and a solitary T20I for India. Former Indian opener Murali Vijay, keeping Shaw’s limited involvement with the national team in mind, has questioned his exclusion from the squad. Vijay is unable to comprehend why Shaw is not a regular selection despite his impressive performances in domestic cricket

“I don’t know why he is not playing now. Should ask the team management,”

Vijay told Hindustan Times.

What Murli Vijay said ;

“There are 15 superstars playing for India. If you are playing for India, you are already a superstar for me. But skill wise I really love Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw. They are top players. Rishabh Pant has done a great job for Indian cricket as well. I wish him a speedy recovery. Shreyas Iyer is doing well.”

Vijay also shared his thoughts on KL Rahul, who has been going through a rough patch with his form lately. The veteran cricketer, aged 38, suggested that Rahul should be given some space as he is aware of what he needs to do to improve his performance.

“He knows what it is and what he needs to do to make a comeback. I think KL should be left alone and not be scrutinized the way they are at the moment. It happens to any cricketer. I think KL should take it easy, work on his basics, and use this time to unwind himself and rejuvenate and comeback strong,”

Vijay said.
