Viktor Gyokeres Arsenal Bid: Gunners Move for Sporting CP Star

Arsenal’s Interest in Viktor Gyokeres: Latest Developments

Arsenal are reportedly pulling all stops to reinforce their attack line this summer. Arsenal have made an offer for Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres as they look to fend off competition from across Europe to land his signature, according to multiple reports. With Arsenal seeking more attacking options, Mikel Arteta has pinned down Gyokeres as one of his top priorities.

Viktor Gyokeres signed from Coventry City for Sporting CP last summer, is in sensational form. He has scored in excess of 36 goals in total this term, turning him into one of the continent’s in-demand forwards. His strength, eye for a goal and creating chances have not gone unnoticed by Arsenal’s scouts.

As per reports, Arsenal’s offer was in the region of €85 million, which falls just short of Gyokeres’ €100 million release clause. But Sporting CP refuse to move on their valuation. They are said to be unwilling to part with their star attacker for anything less than their full release fee. Nonetheless, Arsenal are hopeful of a resolution that would come either in the form of add-ons or a staggered payment.

Mikel Arteta is keen to add an experienced striker to his squad as support to Gabriel Jesus. Injuries and a lack of consistency in attack hindered Arsenal last season. Another spate of those issues could compel them to bolster the quality again. Strength, versatility and Viktor Gyokeres, fits Arteta’s preferred dynamic style of play.

Challenges Arsenal Face in Securing Viktor Gyokeres

And while Arsenal are pushing for the deal, they face competition. Gyokeres is believed to be closely watched by Chelsea, Manchester United and a handful of Serie A clubs. His displays in the Primeira Liga, and in Europe, have put him on the map.

One significant obstacle is the competition’s willingness to satisfy Sporting’s financial demands. Chelsea are a club who are not afraid to force through transfers, and so too do Manchester United possess the financial strength to compete with Arsenal’s financial package. This could potentially and would likely set off a bidding war that would force Arsenal to either raise their offer or explore alternatives.

Sporting CP’s hard ball negotiations are another complication. The Portuguese club are aware of the worth of their asset and are in no pressing need to sell. Sporting’s president has been quoted as saying a move would take place only if the release clause was met. Such hard stance makes the Arsenal negotiation team even more under pressure to be creative in negotiating the window.

However, Arsenal’s sporting project and Arteta’s theoretical football philosophy could well be deciding factors in persuading Gyokeres. Arsenal’s Champions League qualification next season is an added benefit that gives them the upper hand over competitors who can’t provide European football straight away.

Author’s Opinion

I am just being objective here though, but Viktor Gyokeres would be a good signing for Arsenal. He’s a natural goal threat, physical and versatile, all traits that are exceedingly useful in the demands of the Premier League. Arsenal need a striker who can score 20-odd goals a season. Viktor Gyokeres has already proven he can perform at this level.

But caution is necessary. Almost €100 million is a large investment. Arsenal need to ensure that they are not overpaying after just one great season. There is a need to determine if Gyokeres can ride the fast lane into the Premier League and carry on scoring goals under pressure.

With Arsenal in desperate need of a top striker and limited options available in the market, the risk is a calculated one to take on a youngster. Conclusion If the Gunners can strike a good bargain and sign him early, that could boost their title push next campaign.

All in all, things are difficult, but Arsenal’s pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres is indicative of ambition and a plan to construct a squad capable of competing for the biggest honors.
