West Ham confirm the signing of Thilo Kehrer

West Ham have announced the signing of Thilo Kehrer from PSG for a fee of £10.1m. The German defender has signed a four-year contract with the Hammers and has the option to further extend his contract by two years. Kehrer is the sixth signing of the Hammers this season. the club has beaten off competition from across Europe to sign Kehrer from Parc Des Princes.

Kehrer began his professional career with Bundesliga outfit Schalke. in 2004 and developed as the club’s brightest prospect. In 2018, Kehrer joined PSG for 37 million euros. He won six major trophies with PSG across all competitions. However, the defender fell down the pecking order towards the end of his career at PSG. However, now he will be hoping to establish himself as a key player for the Hammers in order to represent Germany at the World Cup later this year.

Kehrer is predominantly a centre back. However, he is comfortable in the fullback position as well. Moreover, he also played as a deep-lying midfielder as a youngster in the Bundesliga. West Ham manager David Moyes expressed his excitement about signing Kehrer and has admired the versatility of the player

Kehrer will wear the number 24 shirt this season. He opened up about his goal with the Hammers on their official website :

“I’m very excited to sign for West Ham United. This is the best league in the world and I’m excited about coming to play in the Premier League. I talked to the manager and he told me about how he sees me fitting in at the club. My biggest goal now is to get into the team, integrate myself within the group and enjoy playing for the club.”
