Arsenal under manager Mikel Arteta are no longer in the stage of rebuilding the squad for winning. They are in the stage of road to achieve glories. With back-to-back UCL qualification for the gunners and regular finishes in the top four, mostly in top two in the domestic league. The hopes at the Emirates have rose up with the gunner’s squad under Arteta. But the room for error at the top levels are very low. Last season a thin margin loss with Manchester City in terms of points to cling the English Premier league and failure at the Europe. Highlighted some of the areas in the squad that was requiring for attention. Where the gunners have worked on this season. Despite that was not enough for the gunners to cling the Premier league title. Mikel Arteta now faces a crucial summer transfer window ahead to make necessary changes.
Addition of a reliable goal scorer for Arteta:
The gunners biggest problem this season has been the lack of an inform striker throughout the season free of any sorts of injury. With the presence of Gabriel Jesus, though he brings a lot to the threat of attacking his presence in the squad is often not seen due to his constant struggle with injuries. The other player as backup was the German Kai Havertz from Chelsea. However Havertz lacks consistency throughout the season and has recently also been sidelined due to injury. Eddie Nketiah has given some moments but cannot be drawn as a typical No.9. Mikel Arteta’s gunners currently require a permanent long term No. 9. Someone who always there at the end of things to connect and convert the half chances to take pressure to the opponents and most importantly deliver and link up goals.
Adding strength to the bench by Arteta with quality players:
Key differences between Arsenal and Liverpool is the availability of attacking option to rotate from players that perform with consistency. These differences is being in shadow in the performance of the squad in the longer run of the games. While Arteta has been developing a strong squad with key players, the main problem occurs when the need for additional players are at need. Which the other remaining fail to provide in times of tight fixtures. Positions like striker, defensive midfield and the right wing still lack strong alternatives for the gunners squad. Signing top level alternatives or young talents that can perform must be the first job. As the squad rotation is a important part in the bid to win major titles for the gunners.
Removing the unwanted:
A necessary step required to be taken by Mikel Arteta is removing the unwanted. Players that have not make an impact or do not fit the long term plan should be pick out at once from the squad. To free up the space for the inclusion of new key players that can contribute to the squad. Arteta must take this step to open the opportunity for new players.
Author’s opinion:
Mikel Arteta is close to achieve something with the gunners this season. As the side has reached the UCL semifinal after many years. With the solid foundation of key players and the loyally backing of the fanbase behind him. But the transition to trophies must come for Arteta this coming season as the fans are much patient with the transition. Arteta must be proactive this season with new tactical changes to the squad with the inclusion of new potential strikers like Victor Gyökeres to win major trophies in 2025-26 season.
