On the transfer deadline day, Chelsea completed the signing of Jadon Sancho from Manchester United on loan. Although the Blues brought in the 24-year-old on loan, they have the option to buy the winger next summer. 12 new players have joined Chelsea in the summer transfer window, and Sancho is the latest one on that list.
Sancho spent the second half of last season on loan from United with German side, Borussia Dortmund. In the first half of the last season, Sancho and United boss Erik Ten Hag had a small fight, which restricted Sancho from getting sufficient playing time. The 24-year-old made only 3 appearances for the Red Devils in the first half. And this year’s January transfer window, Sancho moved to his former club Dortmund on loan.
That loan spell was actually successful, as Sancho made 21 appearances across all competitions including the Champions League, and had 5 goal contributions. His performance in the Champions League was something to watch. This season starts on a positive note for all the Manchester United fans as Sancho and Erik Ten Hag were ready to work together. However, Chelsea showed their interest in signing Jadon Sancho and the Englishmen ended up joining the Blues on loan.
What position will Enzo Maresca play Jadon Sancho in at Chelsea?
Chelsea signed five new forwards in this summer transfer window including Marc Guiu, Omari Kellyman, Joao Felix, Pedro Neto, and Jadon Sancho. With lots of options in the attacking zone, now the question is in which position Sancho will start for Chelsea. Last season, Sancho played as a right-winger for Dortmund and it was a successful loan spell for Sancho.
So, it is expected that Sancho will start on the right-wing for Chelsea under Enzo Maresca. Till now, Noni Madueke has been playing in that position for Chelsea. Madueke scored three goals in the last two matches for the Blues and looking very good. This raises the question of whether Enzo Maresca will go with Noni Madueke for the next matches or Jadon Sancho will get the right-wing side for Chelsea.
Apart from the right-wing side, Sancho could also be played on the left-wing side. The 24-year-old winger has the ability to play on both sides. Sancho did play some matches on the left side in Dortmund during his loan spell earlier this year. So, Enzo Maresca could also used him in the left side in Chelsea.
Finally, Sancho could also be played in the number 10 position. But there is very little chance that Jadon Sancho will be playing in the number 10 position for Chelsea. Cole Palmer is currently holding the number 10 position in Chelsea. And there is no sense that Enzo Maresca will change Cole Palmer for Jadon Sancho. So, it is very clear that Sancho will not play as the number 10 in the Blues. The rest two positions, left-wing and right-wing will be something Maresca could consider for Sancho.
