Mithali Raj, the standout batter for the Indian women’s cricket team, will receive the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award. In June of this year, she was one of the players recommended by the BCCI.
Mithali holds the record for being the first female cricketer to play for 22 years. She has left a legacy that has helped to make Indian women’s cricket one of the most competitive teams in the world.
As a result of her major contributions to the sport, the former cricketer has become synonymous with women’s cricket in India. She made her debut for India in 1999 and has been a torchbearer for women’s cricket in the country ever since.
Mithali Raj gets the Khel Ratna Award
Among the face of hardship, Raj presence on the pitch is known for bringing calm and peace in the team. In India, women’s cricket has gone a long way and Mithali Raj is one of the persons who has been at the vanguard of that progress. Millions of girls around the country look upto her.
The Khel Ratna Award is India’s highest sporting honour. Rohit Sharma, Manika Batra, Vinesh Phogat, Rani Rampal, and Mariyappan Phangavelue got the award in 2020.
In June 2021, the BCCI nominated Ravi Ashwin, Shikhar Dhawan, and Milthali Raj for the prestigious award. Mithali will be given the Khel Ratna honour, while Shikhar Dhawan will be given the Arjuna Award.
