Why have Liverpool yet to make any signings this summer?

After the departure of Jurgen Klopp from Liverpool, former Feyenoord manager Arne Slot became their new head coach. It has been over a month since the summer transfer window opened for Premier League clubs, but Liverpool are still far away from making their first signings. And there are no rumors about the first signing of the Arne Slot era. It’s kind of strange, as the new manager always wants to set up the squad as per his style. But still, Arne Slot hasn’t made any signings in this summer transfer window.

Well, the last time this kind of scenario happened with the Reds was after their Champions League-winning season in 2019. In the 2019/20 season, Liverpool started involving in the transfer market very late and was only able to make the signing of Harvey Elliot from Fulham at the end of July, followed by two more signings but not any high-profile players. But that season Liverpool went on to win the Premier League for the first time in 30 years. This clearly shows that only spending money in the transfer market will not going to help you out.

There are many reasons why Liverpool are yet to make their first signing. According to the news published by Athletic, Richard Hughes already expressed his thought on this matter. Richard Hughes believed that as both Euro 2024 and Copa America just ended this would be the perfect time to start their business. He said,

“When August starts and coaches have had more time to work with players, I think then the opinions will be more set at clubs and you may see there’s a bit of a hurry to get things done. I would see a quiet July and perhaps a crescendo in August.”

Another reason behind this absence of Liverpool in the transfer market is the less amount of players leaving the Club. Matip confirmed his departure from the Club after just appearing 14 times last season. Jarell Quansah already replaced his position. Then, another Liverpool player Thiago left the Club and retired from Professional football, who also had very little playing time last season, made 1 appearance last season. So, Liverpool already replaced players who could go for a long career with the Reds. So, Liverpool are not in a hurry to fill the gaps that these players created.

Another reason that will make happy to all the Liverpool fans happy is that Liverpool always take time to bring best talents. Over the years, the Reds have never hurried in the transfer market. And as their former sporting director, Michael Edwards is back at the club, Liverpool will bring some players in this summer. But it will take time.

What are the positions Liverpool needs to improve?

The club needs a high-profile midfielder, as Thiago left the club. Along with that, Liverpool fans are also expecting a new addition to the backline. The club has to improve the attacking section, and their star player, Mohamed Salah, is 32 years old. So, some new players for the attacking zone will be perfect for the Reds.

Liverpool started their pre-season friendlies with a win over Real Betis. Up next the Reds will meet last season’s Premier League runners-up Arsenal at the start of the next month. Arne Slot’s side will start their upcoming Premier League season against newly Promoted Ipswich Town. Before the start of the new season, Liverpool fans are hoping that they will get their first new signing of this season. As the new manager joined the club, lots of expectations are going on around his playing style and how Slot will set up his team for the upcoming season.
