Man Utd’s Ruben Amorim sees Dorgu as an ideal fit for his master plan.
Ruben Amorim looking for a new left-back
The Red Devils are in search of new faces to be signed in the January transfer window. Some rumours had that they could be selling some players before they can buy.
They have working on to reinforce their squad in the ongoing transfer window. The left-back position being one of the priorities for him, the Man Utd manager is looking to add some quality and depth to his pack.
As per a report from CaughtOffside, Utd are keen on signing Patrick Dorgu from Leece and are taking further steps to make some progress. The manager also thinks that this move can help in his future plan at the club.
According to reports, Leece and Patrick Dorgu have a ‘secret agreement’ already in place as Man Utd trying to get a move for the left-back.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano and journalist David Ornstein, both have confirmed the talks have taken place between the Serie A club and Man Utd.
Sunday’s 3-1 loss against Brighton has made it clear that they want new legs in the squad. With the current bunch of players, it seems difficult for the manager to get the most out of them. Also he’s finding it hard to work on his formation, style of play and philosophy with these players.
As a result, there have been rumours that the Red Devils boss wants a left-back as that position of the field needs more strength. With Luke Shaw’s constant injury crisis and Tyrell Malacia expected to leave, they are looking for long-term options.
Previously the club was also linked with Paris Saint-Germain’s Nuno Mendes and Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez. Now it seems they have a new top target.
Ruben Amorim to face other PL sides to get his man
Fabrizio Romano claims that the Danish defender also wants to join Man Utd. The English side are now set to began formal talks with Leece. They haven’t sent any bid so far for the player.
With PSG’s Nuno Mendes and the Cherries centre-back Milos Kerkez being too expensive, Patrick is at the top of the list. Leece are looking for offers around €40 million (£34 million).
As per reports, there are other Premier League sides who also seem to be behind the Denmark international.
Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in the LB. But for United, there’s no need to panic as they already have taken steps in approaching the player.
According to a report from Corriere dello Sport via SportWitness, the English giants are sure about securing the defender.
The report stats that the Red Devils are close to getting his signature. The club representatives will also be heading to Italy as they look to strike a move for the Danish defender.
The player is also keen to make a move to the Old Trafford. And some reports suggests that an offer around €35 million (including add-ons) could be the perfect deal.
Dorgu’s ‘secret agreement’
Patrick Dorgu and Leece have a ‘secret agreement’ in place as there are interests from various English clubs. Man Utd being the one most interested in him.
As per GiveMeSport, Dorgu signed a new contract in October 2024, that contract includes a secret verbal arrangement between the Serie A club Leece and the player. That agreements says if a big club approaches, the club will not stand in his way.
Given that an offer made by the approaching club, Leece should find it acceptable, with the acceptable offer seems to sit around £30 million, they would let him leave without standing in his way.
Dorgu currently has a wage around £10,000-per-week. If he moves to Old Trafford, this number would likely increase by a certain amount.
Author’s Opinion
As seen in Serie A at Leece, Patrick Dorgu is a technically advanced defender. He reads the game well with his good vision. With his given abilities and United’s situation, the club will surely take the chance and make the most out of it.
