The Indian team is facing another tough challenge against Covid as several players and coaching staff members have tested positive ahead of the series against the Windies.
India will play its 1000th ODI in Narendra Modi Stadium of Ahmedabad. The match will be a culmination of a historic journey where a nation and a sport progressed from strength to strength to embark on glory. From the times of Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar, the baton has now passed to Rohit Sharma as the leader of the pack.
India will hope to win the series opener as they are still awaiting the first victory of the year. Amidst all hurdles, the selection committee will keep a strict eye on players as the big events like ICC WT20 and ICC ODI WC are only a few months away.
Mayank Agarwal has earned a call in the dressing room, to come as a replacement in the side. However, the opener will undergo 3-day mandatory isolation to comply with the covid norms. Hence it is more likely that Rohit will be accompanied by Kishan when Team India gets to bat in the 1st ODI.
“Mayank was added to the squad and he is still in isolation. He came (joined) late and we have some rules in place. If someone is travelling, we have to put them in (mandatory 3-day) quarantine. He has still not finished his quarantine, so Ishan will open the innings. Unless there’s an injury as we have a training today and there is nothing of that sort,” Sharmed said on the eve of India’s 1000th ODI.
The Windies are here to play a 3 match ODI series followed by a 3 match T20 series. Because of the pandemic, Ahmedabad will host all the ODIs while the T20Is will be played in Kolkata.
