Chelsea will be signing Marc Guiu from Barcelona after deciding to trigger the 18-year old’s release clause. Many consider Guiu to have immense potential to become an exceptional center forward in the near future.
The Blues will be paying €6 million to Barcelona for Guiu. The 18-year old is yet another impressive La Masia graduate. New Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca will be keen to have such a talented individual at his disposal.
Chelsea did not enjoy the greatest of campaigns last season. Despite having a young and talented squad, the Blues would finish 6th in the Premier League. Moreover, Manchester United would also steal their Europa League spot after clinching the FA Cup. Lack of experience and team chemistry would see Chelsea dropping points throughout the campaign.
Mauricio Pochettino would also mutually part ways with the club at the end of the season. Needless to say, Chelsea have a young lineup with prolific players. Additionally, Todd Boehly is willing to invest heavily. However, the Blues have failed to turn up with the goods so far.
Furthermore, Chelsea have instead made up a reputation of signing very young and unproven players for hefty fees and long term contracts. The Blues will be hoping for a turnaround this season and securing a place in the top 4 of the Premier League.
Can Marc Guiu be the next Cole Palmer for Chelsea?
Apart from all the signings Chelsea made, one distinctly stood out. He probably was the signing of the season. Chelsea’s signing of Cole Palmer from Manchester City for £42.5 million is easily the best bit of business they have done in recent years.
Although, Palmer was rising at City but was still unproven. However, the Englishman proved to be a bargain becoming a starter directly at Chelsea. Many regard Palmer as the Blues’ best player since Eden Hazard! Palmer would go on to score 27 goals and provide 15 assists in his first season at the Stamford Bridge. Absolutely ridiculous figures (42 G/A) for a 22-year old in his debut season at a club!
Marc Guiu made his senior debut just last year. The 18-year old is also unproven but housing a lot of potential. He would go on to score the winner for Barcelona 23 seconds into his debut! His impressive stats with Spain in U17 World Cup further strengthen the argument of how good a player he could be.
Marc Guiu definitely has a lot of the right traits and with proper guidance could become a big player at Chelsea just like Cole Palmer.
Is the 18-year old right for the Blues?
Undoubtedly, the 18-year old has shown glimpses of stardom. Guiu wants to prove himself and needs more gametime to unlock his true potential. However, with the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Vitor Roque at Barcelona, he may not get much time on the field.
Chelsea could use Guiu’s thirst and build upon it to improve him as a player. Additionally, Guiu is also excited about Chelsea project as he will be joining the Blues in pre-season as part of the first team. Moreover, the exposure in Europe’s best league would further be integral for him.
Furthermore, many Chelsea fans are already in awe of the youngster for his talents and skills on the ball. The 18-year old is already a figure amongst the fans and could go on to become a fan favorite at the Bridge. Maresca could also use Guiu to back up Nicolas Jackson in the Premier League. Subsequently, Guiu could also feature in Europe in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Certainly, Guiu is a promising player and €6 million for him could easily be a bargain if he reaches his potential. The 18-year old will be hoping to hit the ground running as the Blues welcome yet another wonderkid.
