The Indian Premier League has always become a stage for youngsters to show their abilities. Not only in terms of bowling and batting but young players develop their characters as mature cricketers. This year we will see two young Indian lads commanding their respective teams in IPL. Sanju Samson for Rajasthan Royals and Rishabh Pant for Delhi Capitals.
Sanju got the responsibility before the IPL auction 2021 and it was a planned decision of the management but the chance for Pant came because of the injury of Shreyas Iyer. So it is a big question to be answered in this edition of IPL, how these young cricketers manage their teams.
After the huge success of M.S. Dhoni, a myth in the cricket field was buzzing that a skipper who is a wicket-keeper is an advantage for the team. The keeper has a view from the batsman’s angle and can read the pitch also. We have seen Dinesh Karthik for Kolkata Knight Riders, K.L. Rahul for Punjab kings in past.
But Sanju Samson probably will not wear the keeping gloves when they have a world-class keeper-batsman like Josh Butler. But Rishabh Pant will be keeping for Delhi Capitals for sure and let’s see if the myth goes in favor of him or not.
Story Of Sanju Samson:
Sanju Samson, the 26-years-old Indian cricketer was the highest run-scorer for his team last year. Though the team results at the end were poor they found positive facts too. Earlier in the auction, Steve Smith had been released by the RR franchise. Sanju was named as captain some days before the auction.
“It’s a team that is so close to my heart, which I’ve been lucky enough to play for over the years, and I’m excited about the challenge that lies ahead of me as the leader of the team,”– Sanju said in an interview. There are not many senior Indian Players in RR but the experience of Butler, Stokes, and Morris will surely help him in his captaincy.
“I’m quite lucky I’ve got a very good relationship with Sanju, I have batted with him at Rajasthan and in Delhi. I don’t see him as a young captain, I see him as a seriously good cricket player, who’s got a great cricket brain,” -Chris Morris said in a virtual interview.
So it seems that the management and players have faith in Sanju. His performance in this IPL can earn him a spot in the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 world cup.
Story of Rishabh Pant:
Rishabh Pant has been having a dream form since the Australia tour. He has become so mature in all three formats of the game in a very short time. He has proven to pull matches single-handedly in recent days.
After Shreyas Iyer got injured during the first ODI against England, speculation started about his availability in IPL 2021. As he ruled out for about three months from cricket Delhi Capitals named Rishabh Pant as their captain for 2021.
Pant was already the vice-captain of the team so it is not a new pressure for him. But having senior players like Rahane, Dhawan, Smith, Ashwin, how he takes the call and manages the team is a show to watch.
Experts are divided into two groups about the impact of this decision. Some say that it will put Pant under pressure and Pant can drop his form regarding this. But the others are saying that it will make Pant more mature and responsible towards the game and will help him in the future.
“Heartiest congratulations to @RishabhPant17 on being named the captain of @DelhiCapitals for this season. I am sure he will be a talismanic leader and will be donning this new cap with pride,” Raina tweeted.
Netizens are hoping best for Pant as he is the current sensation of Indian Cricket. He has the temperament, strong character, and idea of the game which can make him a good captain.
