William Saliba’s Rise at Arsenal and Real Madrid’s Growing Interest
Recently, there has been plenty of chatter about William Saliba and Real Madrid, with Saliba becoming a vital cog in Mikel Arteta’s defensive strategy. Since returning from his loan spell in 2022, the Frenchman has matured heavily, bringing calmness, speed and tactical nous to Arsenal’s backline. His performances in the Premier League and Champions League this season have earned him praise from fans and pundits alike.
A player of his quality would naturally attract interest from elite clubs. According to reports, Real Madrid is interested as well. As Los Blancos line up a generational overhaul at the back, their sights remain fixed on world-class talents below the age of 25. Spanish media and international transfer experts now connect William Saliba with Real Madrid more often.
Real Madrid views William Saliba as a successor to the likes of Antonio Rüdiger and Nacho Fernandez. His profile matches the club’s model — young, experienced and playing the highest level. The La Liga giants are reportedly keeping a close eye on the situation and would consider a move as part of their long-term defensive reshuffle.
There is no formal bid, but the noise is getting louder. Arsenal supporters are getting nervous. However, confidence inside the club remains high that Saliba is firmly committed to the North London project.
Will Madrid Make a Move or Is It All Noise?
Madrid remains wary despite the interest. They want to see more from Saliba, according to sources. The phrase “he needs to earn it” has emerged as a description of him, namely that he needs to prove week in and week out that he deserves a place at Santiago Bernabéu.
This sentiment does not question his talent so much as it underscores Madrid’s high standards. They have alternatives and do not need to participate in bidding wars easily unless a target demonstrates elite consistency over multiple seasons.
Arsenal for their part reportedly have no plans to lose Saliba. The club sees him as a long-term presence in the heart of its defense. Arsenal hold the cards in terms of the situation, with a contract running until 2027.
Any exit would come with a huge fee attached, and the Gunners will not act unless the player pushes for a move—and that hasn’t happened.
With Martin Ødegaard, Bukayo Saka and Saliba, Arsenal is building a core to challenge for a long time. Releasing one would unsettle Arteta’s vision. Now, unless Real Madrid are prepared to pay an unprecedented sum or Saliba pushes for an exit, a deal appears remote this summer.
And transfer gossip will roll on. But for now, Arsenal are relaxed, and Saliba is undistracted. He has made no public statement indicating he wants out.
Author’s Opinion
It will be hard not to link William Saliba and Real Madrid. It is a classic case of Europe’s elite raiding for the best-performing young talent. But context matters. Saliba has developed into a linchpin of Arsenal and suits Arteta’s system down to the ground.
His partnership with Gabriel Magalhães has helped make Arsenal one of England’s best defensive units. The club has supported him, and he’s repaid that faith. It would be too soon for him to depart when the team is finally competing at the top.
Real Madrid may eventually make a move. But it should not take place this summer. Saliba is still growing and requires regular first team football at one of the very top levels. At Arsenal, he gets that. He would face stiff competition and greater pressure at Madrid.
Unless things change dramatically, the prudent course is to stay put. Arsenal need him. Saliba is thriving. And if Real Madrid, who are tantalizing, have to wait their turn, so be it.
