Williams F1 has appointed a new team principal – James Vowles

Mercedes strategist James Vowles will replace Jost Capito as the new team principal for the Williams F1 team.

Williams finally gave the much-awaited news. The 2023 sill season didn’t stay reserved till the drivers as many teams’ managing roles changed. From Ferrari to Sauber, McLaren. Mattia Binotto left Ferrari while Fred Vasseur left Alfa Romeo to replace him. On the other hand,  Andreas Seidl left McLaren for Alfa Romeo followed by Andreas Stella filling Seidl’s spot at McLaren.

The 2023 silly season for team principals played out too fast for the fans to comprehend. And now, Williams has officially announced their replacement for the vacant spot.

Jost Capito left the Williams side after a disappointing 2022 season where the team finished last. Capito worked as a team principal for the side since 2020.

Coming in to replace Capito is James Vowles. Vowles has a 21-year-long career in Formula 1. He has been working with the Mercedes side since 2010. For the past four years, the Briton is Motorsport Strategy Director at Mercedes. Earlier too, Vowles has managed some key roles in the teams like Brawn GP, Honda, and BAR.

The 43-year-old will be joining grove operations with the team on February 2023.

“I cannot wait to start with Williams Racing. It’s an honour to join a team with such an incredibly rich heritage. The team is an icon of our sport, one I greatly respect, and I am very much looking forward to the challenge,”

said, Vowles.

“Williams Racing have placed their faith and trust in me, and I will do the same in return. The team has tremendous potential, and our journey together starts in a matter of weeks.”
