India had a disappointing campaign in Asia Cup 2022. They lost many close encounters and could not hold their nerves properly. The bowling unit was one of the loopholes which was exposed. But they ended their campaign on a good note and with high self-esteem. Virat coming to form was one of the positives of the tournament. But one of the negatives was ruling out Ravindra Jadeja from the tournament and most probably from the T20 World Cup even. India is going to play 2 bilateral T20 series against South Africa and Australia on their own soil. Then they will move to Australia for the T20 world cup. The squad for the upcoming world cup will be announced by this week. Rohit Sharma will lead the team.
India’s t20 World Cup squad set to be announced by this week
Jasprit Bumrah has been out from team India playing 11 for a long time. He had a back injury owing to which he was not picked up for Asia Cup 2022. He is the leading bowler on the team and the team needs his experience in big stages like World Cup. The T20 World Cup 2022 is going to be played in Australia which has fast bowler supporting grounds making his importance more crucial.
The lack of bowling experience in playing 11 has already cost us some important matches in Asia Cup 2022. Moreover, he is a death-over specialist and bowls at a good economy. India team management will be announcing the squad for World Cup this week. The team has no more series or tournaments left to test their bowling unit or new players. Definitely, they are going to play 2 series against South Africa and Australia before the World Cup. But it will be acted as a warm-up game before the T20 world cup. The team will want to play their final squad for practice purposes.
If Bumrah does not get fit for the World Cup, it will be a challenge for team management and selectors to choose the proper squad for the World Cup. Harshal Patel is not totally fit to play and had to wait for his confirmation. Bhuvenswar Kumar will surely lead the bowling unit. Deepak Chahar, Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh, and Mohammad Siraj may be included but they do not possess good experience in such a demanding stage. It is questionable whether team management will go for Shami in his absence.
BCCI statement regarding Jasprit Bumrah:
” Bumrah has not been declared fit yet. “
